does any one know if those inexpensive hearing aids that you buy on line really work

I wondered the same as I really could use a new one in my hearing ear, but I don't want to spend a couple of thousand for another one. I've been researching one of the German makes and it is supposed to be pretty good, but I am not jumping for there are others yet to see.

The inexpensive ones are just amplifiers. They are not adjusted to your hearing loss But, they are better than nothing. I have a pair of ones that have been programmed to my hearing loss in each ear. My right ear has a more profound loss than the left.
They were not inexpensive, but they saved my marriage.

I must mention that my hearing is so good that Bowmore calls me Lassie. "What is it Lassie?" he says and I stare at him to let him know Timmy is in the well.
Running out of the room now and hiding.🏃‍♀️

Mine are from an audiologist and they cost a fortune. I didn't even get the top of the line. If I am in a group of people it is hard for me to tell who is talking but I'm usually not in that situation often.
The problem is that they don't last long,if I get 4 years out of them I'm lucky. I do get free batteries and she tinkers with them so I can get the most out of them.
Next time I will shop around but they generally cost about the same if going through an audiologist.

My wife’s expensive ones were nothing but a pain in the arse the day she bought them. Digital, self adjusting piece of $2500 junk. Last month, I bought a pair online and she loves them. They were $699 but twice the hearing aid as the last ones. Remember though, each persons hearing is different. They may not work for everyone.
My first hearing aids from Costco are 3 years old, but not happy with them. I'd like to order new ones online. Can I ask where you purchased your wife's? Thanks, Pappy

Generally speaking a hearing aid that costs less than $7,500 is not any good. So for two ears that's $15,000 and for a couple of people that's $30,000. My cousin got hearing aids that cost that much. I asked her if they helped. She said, "A little." That's a lot of money for "a little." Hearing loss can cause all kinds of misunderstandings in a relationship. One can no longer say things gently. If they do, the spouse can't hear. When you say it loud enough for them to hear, they think you are mad at them. That works in reverse too. So sometimes it's easier to say nothing.

I am sorry, Phoenix, but hearing aids have come down tremendously in price. I recently bought a pair of Phonak aids that were programmed to my hearing loss profile for $3500 for the pair. I found an audiologist on line and made an appointment. The purchase includes 3 years of follow up for adjustments as needed.
They also had a plan to pay for them over 12 months at no interest.
They are state of the art, Bluetooth compatible, and I can use them with my smartphone, my Kindle Fire, and my TV. It is very strange that my wife no longer mumbles.:D

Are they any good? That's the issue. I won't buy any. All the people I know don't like theirs.

Please read my edited post. I am sorry that I had to add more to it. I do not know where the people you know bought theirs, but unless they are programmable and adjusted by an audiologist, they would be useless.
So many prople buy them, try them once, and put them in a drawer.

The people I know purchased them through audiologists. They did it responsibly. I'm glad it works for you.

I have a question about hearing aids. You know how normally a person can get surprised by a loud noise that hurts their ears? How does that work if you have hearing aids? Does it make it worse?

Ten years ago I bought a pair of used hearing aids from an audiologist. I took the ridght ear and my wife, who had had several hearing aids,
took the left one. Hers went out a couple years ago and no one could repair it. I bought her a cheap pair online, less than three hundred dollars because she wanted to try them. They have been successful for her, but are not as good as the used pair I bought, in my opinion. I think the cheap one if they work require more attention.

I had no idea a person could buy a used hearing aid. That seems odd to me. I've known people who bought cheap ones and those who bought expensive ones. The results were always the same. They end up putting them in the drawer. One of the issues is the background noise. It drove/drives them nuts. If I could go to a doctor and have it guananteed that if it didn't work, I'd get my money back, I might try it.

I have hearing aids...I have no problem with them....Of course they were very expensive....I did get 3 free times to go to the Doctor....
Now I have to pay if something goes wrong.. I have them 4 years....

thats probably all i need is an amplifier-just to bring my hearing in the good ear a little louder---i want to see if these people i live with are talking about me-just kidding-but i do miss some words when people talk to me

I got the TV adapter with my hearing aids. They are also Bluetooth compatible and I use them with my Kindle to listen to music and with my smartphone for hands free conversation

Between the two of us, we have issues. I know that I don’t hear too well in one ear. He has a softer voice because of medical issues. Both of us refuse to admit that either of us is the problem.

By the time I arrive at a store with my mask, glasses, sunglasses, hat while wearing a bulky coat (and winter hasn’t even arrived) I’m envisioning one of these little contraptions ending up in the snow. Also, I’m in denial.

Just have a new pair coming from the VA. I went yesterday as mine are four years old and giving me problems. I’ll let you know how I like them. These have some new features that are very appealing.
