Heating with wood

This a pic of the 2 cords of wood we had delivered yesterday evening. Pretty cool "Good Morning" shot too. :)

We have heated the house with a double barrel wood stove for about 35 years. It has just been in the last 5 years that we gave up bringing in the wood from our forest. So, this was a a very good feeling going out and loading the pickup to take it to stack. Warmth...you got to love it. :)

I'm with you on the wood heating. We bought a Bryan outdoor wood furnace about a year after we moved here to this dense forest. Our place is total electric, and even with low rates, the Winter electric bills were quite high, the first year. I have an endless supply of firewood, and I've got about 3 cords ready to go....probably starting within the next week or two. I went thru the forest a couple of weeks ago, and found a half dozen more dead trees, which should more than take care of the rest of the Winter. I figure that over the past 17 or 18 years I've paid for the furnace, the chainsaws, the logs splitter, and a good part of the tractor....plus all this work getting the wood helps keep me fit.

Gary, we cut up a big dead nut tree and couldn't resist saving some of the really seasoned hardwood for the fireplace even though we've got a lot of firewood already. So much wood, so little fires...lol.

It is a nice heat. Though I have a bit of a fire phobia. What's nice about a wood store is that you can heat food on it if the electricity goes out and that's what your kitchen stove is.
