Heavy rains and/or a wet winter in California could lead to another gold rush. They calling it the California gold rush 2.0. They're anticipating an influx of gold prospectors.

Heavy rains/run off loosened or are loosening the walls of creeks & streams which creates a lot of debris or material that could have gold in it.

I doubt it will be the same as the last one, but it will be interesting to see what happens here and how technology changes panning for gold.

I was stationed with a battalion of Marines in Alaska for 9 weeks while learning about our NORTHCOM Defense System in coordination with the Air Force. There are no Marine bases in Alaska. I know, that’s hard to believe, but there’s no Naval bases in Alaska either, or at least there wasn’t during my time. We were at Elmendorf AFB. We all got along pretty well.

On our time off, we had to find something to do. One of the Sergeants decided to take about 20 volunteers and go panning for gold after about a 12 mile hike to get to their location. The boys came back with about 18 ounces of the yellow stuff. By rule, whatever they find belongs to the government, but the command staff decided to turn their backs and let them keep their findings.

We were just outside of Anchorage in March, but it wasn’t cold. We spotted 2 Russian spy planes (MiG-29) at 2 am on radar and after giving a warning, we scrambled 4 F/A-18’s They turned tail and ran. One of our pilots got a little ambitious and decided to fire a few sparklers just to put some light on the target. I won’t say who that was, but I got my butt handed to me after landing.
