Some times people are thonking I've croaked because I am not on the wifi much! πŸ™‚ Hahaha. Not a techie guy that's for sure! HahahJa πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚. I still remember when you had to use the phones the get on-line, now we get on-line for the phones! 😁 How crazy is that!

Cell phones replaced landline phones. Wifi to transmit to our TV & eufy surveillance system. Computer to track online purchases & of course email & this website. Like auto deposit for income & online bill pay.

Like the minimal effort needed now to accomplish what took time & effort to manage before.

Recently I read the importance of being prepared for computer crashes.

There is much to consider when sorting the pros and cons.

I have internet service at home, but no wifi.

I still use the computer but rely more and more on the iPhone.

I use free wifi at the local Wegman's grocery store when I need to do an iOS update on the iPhone.

I think I'll be ready to let go of the computer once I am able to understand and use AirPrint.

Baby steps! :giggle:

I'm not a phone person for anything other than calls. I prefer calls over texting, e mail, etc. For all the rest, I prefer using the computer.
I don't have a smart phone. Yet. Eventually I will. I'm not looking forward to it. I prefer phone calls too most of the time. I do text but very little. My work requires us to get on a computer program to see what rooms are dirty that need to be cleaned. I also frequent 3 forums, facebook & twitch. The last two I use for my video gaming to connect with other players.

I would hate to be without wifi for the same reason everyone else does -- tv, phone, etc. use wifi. Plus, I don't have to be tethered to my laptops (one for ubuntu, and a cheap one for Windows).

My cousin has wifi cameras up around his property to watch for bears, fisher cats, bobcats, and other animals. Once, his wife (now deceased) was about 10 feet from a bear when she was entering the barn. She did not see the bear. But her husband did. He also likes to make sure his dogs are okay -- he has a large fenced-in area for them, but when they are outside, he keeps an eye on those cameras. All this information has resulted in me not being too eager to walk in the woods behind his house. The woods are one of my favorite places to be, and his house backs onto a state forest of some kind.

I use wifi when I use my phone at home. I also recently installed light switches that I can turn on and off with my phone. The switches require wifi to receive the signal from the phone. My playstation also connects to the outside world using wifi.

I have the same..I can turn my lights off and on even from overseas as well as my heating if I should wish to... or even my hot water ..

I use my wifi with my little chromebook and my iPhone pretty much all day. My SO was using it for her iPad, but it has died, and needs to be replaced. So she uses her iPhone all day. A TV may be on, but is pretty much ignored most of the time.

As an aside, it is always amusing when folks come on here (a social media) to announce they don't use social media....

My setup only works when I'm within 100 ft of my house. I know about your system, and I've thought about that, but I probably won't take it that far.
if you don't need it then there's no requirement for it, but because ( well pre-covid) I was often overseas.. it helped a lot to be able to turn on light periodically to deter burglars.. and also in winter to heat the house for an hour every other day

As others have stated, my wifi is used all day, my phone, computer and tv, I don't use my phone as a computer much because it's too hard to see but the wifi makes my life much much easier and I'm amazed at the tech world and all it offers.
