Hello from Central New York State

Thank you for the welcome. Strange weather here lately. The high was 89 degrees today, then it quickly cooled down to 69 this evening after an intense thunderstorm swept on through. I like thunderstorms. The trees are still standing.
Thunderstorm was threatened here...nothing

Welcome, Barbara. I love to sit on a protected porch and watch stormy weather. Fortunately I live in Florida where it’s common.
Thanks for the welcome. In the early 2000s I spent a few days in Orlando, FL attending U.S. Transplant Games and visiting DisneyWorld--it poured buckets daily at 3pm. My son has lived in St. Pete since 2006 and I've visited there many times but I don't recall daily storms. I guess it must depend on specific locations in FL. I do love Florida visits :)

Hi Barbara, nice to have you join us!

I look forward to seeing a photo of your coonhound mix. She sounds adorable. You won't be able to post images right away. Sadly, we can't have dogs in our condo. We live vicariously through our daughter's female Corgi :)
Hi Pinky, I'm glad you can share the love for your daughter's Corgi. I loved a couple of Golden Retrievers for 13 years. My Golden girl, Bella, was euthanized in May 2021 and my toy boy, Bartok, was euthanized in Nov 2022. It took me some time to decide whether or not I should own another dog--my health has taken some hits so I questioned whether or not I can do this. She makes my world better.

Belle is a beautiful girl, and for sure, she would be great company for you.

Welcome From Atlanta, Barbara. My name is actually Barbara as well. We transplanted from NY, RI and CT years ago. Love the Finger Lakes. Happy you are here.
Hello (actually) Barbara :)--thank you for your welcome. I've thought about transplanting to St. Pete where my only living son and grandson live. I love St. Pete but the traffic is heavy, fast, and furious there. Here in NY my most challenging obstacles to share the road with are gigantic farm tractors.

Hi Barbarak333. I'm down here in Sydney, Australia. It's Winter now and our temperature last night was 3 Celsius pretty darn cold for us. The days are lovely and sunny. Hope to hear about your escapades.
Hello oscash, I send you WARM wishes! Here in NY we are currently pretty darn warm with a forecast of high heat and thunderstorms through Sunday. Our high today is forecasted at 90F (32C). In one of my first posts, I mentioned that the trees in my yard were still standing after an intense storm a couple of evenings ago. An update on that is that I've sadly lost a large chunk of an ornamental Bradford pear tree that I planted 15 or so years ago. Clean-up will be an adventure :)

Hello, I'm Barbara and I'm happy to have found this forum. :) I live a relatively simple life in the Finger Lakes Region of NY where farms, wineries, breweries, lakes, waterfalls, parks, and natural places are plentiful. I retired 3 years ago at age 63 due to job loss during the pandemic and now enjoy working part-time.

Hi Barbara! It's lovely to meet you. Sounds like you've found a slice of paradise in the Finger Lakes Region! With all that natural beauty surrounding you, it must be so peaceful and serene. Congratulations on your retirement - I bet it's nice to have more time to enjoy the beauty of your area and work at a more leisurely pace. How do you like to spend your free time? Do you enjoy any hobbies or activities that take advantage of all the nature around you?

Nice to see another New Yorker-I am from the Southern Tier of NY, (Finger Lakes) ,in a farm community and it was feeling 103 degrees ( the heat indices) here, when thermometer hit 95 yesterday.

We have had some intense thunderstorms too and I shut down PC when they are expected.

I just got my garbage and recycles out, for a rural garbage company and so far it is only 72 in the shade.(8:30 am)

I just have been picking the most important things I have to do each day, and if they are outside jobs, I do them as early as I can.

I am glad I have a crock pot, and don't have to use the oven. I have central air conditioning but still seniors have to be very careful in these high temps.

Hello AZFH, thank you for your message. Most days are spent walking my dog, Belle, at Clute Park in Watkins Glen--twice daily year-round, in all kinds of weather. On extremely hot days like today, an early morning walk is it. My backyard is fenced in so that's always an option, but she's not all that crazy about the back yard and truly thrives on other dog scents at the park--and she's the boss :)

I work 15 hours a week as an assistant bookkeeper at a large non-profit reuse organization and I love it. Every other day is a day off and that works well at this age since I need naps.

As far as hobbies, I love to play with paper, inks, all sorts of paints, rubber stamps, an embossing/die cutting machine, and various related tools and supplies. I'm inspired by artist Tim Holtz and his many makers and fellow addicts. Other hobbies are stained glass, mosaics, sewing, quilting, slow stitch, to name a few--the list and my brain go every which way.

Welcome, Barbara.
Thanks for the nice intro post. :)

I remember that beautiful area of yours.
Visited there in my late teens. That was several decades ago.

I hope you walk a while of your path, with us.
