I am an American living in Spain. I am married to a Spaniard. We have started a business to help people who are interested in retiring to Spain. First, let me tell you about the major benefits....

1. Cost of living is much lower! Madrid, the capital, is 21% cheaper than Portland, Oregon (where I am from). Smaller cities, even more. Castellon (by Valencia) is 37% less. You can go to numbeo.com and put in your city and compare it with a city in Spain and tell you what the differences are in prices of things.
Cost of living calculator is helpful. If you spend 1,000 in Portland, you only spend 763 in Madrid for the same services, items.

2. Violent crimes. These are almost nil here. You feel safe walking the streets late at night. No shootings as no one has guns.

3. The weather is beautiful! The way of life is more relaxed. People live longer.

4. Housing is much much less. We live just outside of Madrid in the country with acreage. If you live in a smaller town, you can find houses with land/garden or apartments for very little.

5. Healthcare is great here! Private insurance is @300.00/month and covers everything and usually has English speaking doctors.

We would like to help you if you are interested in retiring to Spain. I know that it is a huge decision to move to another country. Obtaining the retirement visa in Spain is something we can help you with. The financial requirement for a Spanish retirement visa is you must be able to show that you are making at least 25,000/year in retirement. This is an amount that 2 people can live on here in Spain.

Please contact us if you are interested in retiring to Spain. If you have never been and are unsure, we can offer a visit to stay with us for a month to see what it is like. I look forward to hearing from you! Heather

Hola and welcome Madrid,

I’ve watched a few TV programmes about this and it certainly looks very tempting !
If my family commitments should ever change I would definately look into it more seriously

Welcome Madrid....

You don't have to sell Spain to me...we have 2 homes in Southern Spain which we've owned for many years, I lived and worked there for years ... My daughter lives and runs a business in Southern Spain too...

BTW you're paying a lot for Private health insurance...my daughters' is only 800 euros a year...

There's a lot of violent crime...and a lot of violent muggings...and there certainly is guns...although mostly openly carried by the Guardia Civil...both on the coast and the cities...

There's a lot more I could say...but I love Spain

I just got email from a good friend saying she's been in Spain for a week and leaving tonight for Portugal, her Scot husband's favorite country! Not even a photo dammit.

Welcome Madrid. Sounds great but I flunked Spanish as a freshman in high school (1961 or so) so you'll have to count me out.
