Hello from Massachusetts; on being alone

Living alone made me decide to post. Not having a car probably makes for more being alone, though I bicycle some in good weather. Many social events are at night, and it seems not a good idea to bike at night, so I don't go to them. As I used to drive, it sometimes seems like a frustrating situation, but other times I enjoy the bicycle and being on my own. It is good to be a free single person in some ways. Does anyone else ever wonder about the risks of becoming involved, financial and otherwise, during old age?

hey oldmaid--i was born and raised in lowell mass--no i loved living alone just me and my dog welcome to senior forum

Welcome to the forum old maid. I'm from New Jersey. I don't think I would want to bike at night either. I still drive but get nervous driving in areas I'm not familiar with. Not much on social events.

Old Maid - - Aloha & E Komo Mai (welcome) to the forum. I suspect that you are correct that riding your bike after dark is not a good idea. I have a friend who is 75 or so and still rides 20 to 30 miles a day, but they are all day-time miles, and usually with at least one other rider. I believe he has now ridden in all 50 states.

Mahalo (thank you)

Welcome to Senior Forums! I wouldn't ride a bike at night. I also don't drive at night anymore.

As for socializing, I've met some wonderful and caring friends at my volunteer work place. I'm the oldest one in the group but they include me in with the holiday dinners, and every other Monday, I go to lunch with the one that I call my "adopted son".
They also treat me to special concerts a few times a year, along with the annual Christmas trip to Nieman Marcus in San Francisco, with dinner. I've volunteered at a lot of places over the years, but this one (7 years, now) has been the most wonderful with a fantastic core group of very caring friends.

Please clarify what you mean by INVOLVED.

Welcome from Georgia! There are other means of transportation to events (like Uber, etc) rather than biking. I would not let "not driving" stop me from going to events if you want to.
