I just discovered this site and I'm looking forward to the conversations. I'm a remarried widow living in Ocean Pines, Maryland. I retired early from my university faculty position in northern Virginia. I may be the only professor in history to get tenure and retire a week later!

Anyway, I have shed the ceaseless striving for success and achievement for a simpler, more mindful, retirement lifestyle. I enjoy writing my new blog (cindysmindfulretirement.wordpress.com), looking at the waterfowl outside my back window, walking my dogs, and my book club. We are 5 miles from Ocean City, Md and also enjoy the ponies on Assoteague Island.

Life is too short to miss the present moment!

Thank you. This should be fun!

I love coastal Maine. We debated between there and coastal Maryland for our retirement. Hope to get back up there someday soon.

Love your proverb - may have to use it in an upcoming blog post! I also have Scottish blood. My maiden name is "Hunter."

I actually can't prove I have any Scottish blood though it's likely (I have a Sutherland in the family way back). I'm American and moved here to marry a Scot. ;)

Well, if I lived in Scotland and married a Scotsman, I'd claim the nationality as my own! What a beautiful place!

Welcome from Oregon. What did you teach? What university? I'm in the process of contacting universities across the country in their psych, soc, social work and criminal justice programs regarding the book I just published, hoping they will take it on as part of their curriculum. It's a slow process. Were you under the publish or perish rule? If so, what did you publish?

Thanks for your interest! I retired as Associate Professor of Management and Human Resource Management from Marymount University in Arlington, VA. I taught grad and undergrad courses in mgt, hrm, and organization development in the School of Business Administration. Yes, we had "publish or perish" and I co-authored two books on leadership coaching and a number of articles. Marymount is small, Catholic university that is known for its programs in business, nursing and interior design. Marymount has all the programs you mentioned except social work. You can find a faculty list at www.marymount.edu. It sounds like you are a professor also. If so, where? What is the name of your book?

Cool. Did you love teaching? Do you miss it yet? Do you plan to teach an occasional class? I bookmarked the link to Marymount and will look up people to contact tomorrow. Thank you. No, I'm not a professor. I started college at 24, so I befriended a number of my professors. I was accepted into grad school after a family tragedy. The tragedy had such a long-lasting devastating effect, as I helped my parents through it, that I had to drop classes. It changed everything in my life. I became a writer instead. I've told people here about the tragedy so I don't want to bore them. I'll send you a private message which will include the letter I'm emailing to professors. It will explain why I'm doing what I'm doing. Thank you too for your interest. I love what the world of academia did for me. It liberated me.
