Hello and welcome from New Jersey. I remember the Woodstock gathering very well. We were newly married and had our first family cook out in our new home the day it took place.
We had a lot of family back then and my hubby was on the phone constantly trying to get family members to take different routes to get to our home. The traffic on the main roads was all backed up for miles.
Everyone did manage to get to our home. We only found out the next day why there was such a tie up.

When I am my 3 friends left for our adventure we had no idea that it was going to be that many people. It wasn't like it is today with media coverage where you can get up to the minute details so we were out in left field really. Like I said we could only get so close and my friend parked his car near a market and we just followed the crowd. We actually had no clue where we were going. We were just following what we now saw was a lot of people. We finally got there and honestly it was not what we expected it to be at all. We expected to be a line to go through a gate and pay. There was not that we just walked through a field and found a spot and we were good to go.

Later they made an announcement that it was going to be a free festival.
