LOL.... 
...it's not too far from the truth. As a Northerner myself, I was so used to just starting up a conversation with people in the street ... I was traumatised for years by people looking at me like I'd lost my mind the first decade I was here.. after almost 50 years I'm used to it now, but I still miss the northern friendliness !
