Help Me choose a simple 4G or 5G flip phone, please.

Here's my story. I currently have 2 perfectly fine flip phones, but they are both 2G and t-mobile says they are getting rid of 2G on April 2, 2024. They already got rid of 3G.

So I am sadly looking for a new 4G or 5G simple phone. I have T-Mobile prepaid, which I like since I very rarely use my cell phone. I have $40 still on one phone and $100 on the other, non-refundable, so I want to stay with t-mobile prepaid to keep my $140. I called them up and they agreed I can transfer the$140 to the new phone. They offered to give me a 'free' 4G (or 5G) phone, but I have to contribute $100 in 'new' money to my account to get it. So I would have $240 which I would never use in years and years.

Here's my current plan. I'll buy a Nokia 2780 flip phone from Bestbuy for $89. I think I need to buy a sim card to go with it. It's a 3G phone but is compatible with 4G and LTL, whatever that is.

What I have read online implies the phone does NOT come with its own sim card. Does that sound right? I have to buy a sim card? They are only $10 or $15, so it's not a deal breaker.

T-mobile tells me they don't know if the 2780 is compatible with their towers. I have to get some number off the phone itself, and call them up with it to get an answer.

Can I use the internet with prepaid and is it the rate per minute the same as voice?

I just want to have a phone that does voice and texts, but if it comes with internet too, that's OK.

How does my plan sound, for someone who values simplicity and frugality?

Thanks

Buy your, flip phone, but try to get a "SIM Free", one, then shop around
for the best deal, the modern flip phones cost a fortune!

If you can only get a 3 phone, the go for their SIM deal, you can still have
your number.

That is how I work, I get unlimited calls, unlimited texts and internet access
as much as I need, you can also keep your existing number. I got the SIM
deal from my internet provider.

Mike.
