I think in the past she has said she will continue her reign until she dies, as most monarchs of the past did.

We've watched, The Crown ~ twice. Amazing series.
 

I didn't trust news coming from Buckingham Palace about Phillip when he was in hospital and then recovering back home later. They always reported something to the effect of; "Don't worry it's all precautionary, nothing to see here. Everyone just move along." Not long later, he was dead. I hope this isn't something similar because I have a lot of time for the Queen. Couldn't give a toss about the rest of them.

The Queen has conducted herself admirably for all the years she's held the throne. A real trooper having suffered through many political & personal crisis situations over the years and, she's never stopped striving to be better at what she does as well!
 
In today's NYT,Queen Elizabeth;s doctors have told her to rest for the next 2 weeks
She can do Zoom meetings.desk duty but that's it
I think she's still greiving over the the passing of her husband, Prince Phillip,combination of recent hospital stay and her age has alot to do with it
prayers she feels better in the coming days
 
I don't get it I guess.

I certainly don't wish the Queen ill, in fact I hope she does well, as I would anyone. And I appreciate history and the role of the various monarchies, particularly the British, in helping make civilization what it is today. But the need for that seems to me to have passed a long time ago.

I have a hard time understanding this Royalty thing in today's world. What does the UK, or others get from it today?

I often think of the Truman Show ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Truman_Show ) when I hear about Royals.
 
Is it true that with all the inter-marriage between "royals" and commoners, soon there will be no physical connection between royalty and those gone past? If there is none, what's the point?

Obviously if you are not born to it you will have difficulty relating, just as we have difficulty relating to a president.

We tried doing away with the monarch like the French, but it's not really our scene.

Like God, you either believe or you don't.

I have criticised her, sometimes in these columns, but she is anointed by God, and there's an end to it.

If she needed a new heart or or a pair of lungs I would be the first of many millions standing in line. I would have done the same for her predecessor, and will do the same for her successor if I'm still around.

It's a Brit thing!
