"Here, on our stage."

Of course, you remember "The Ed Sullivan Show". There was always a good mix of talent. Oh God, even those opera singers!! What six acts would you book for your show? Don't forget you need someone for the "kids" as well as Granny. Plus a circus act.

I wouldn't book any of them because I always did (and still do) hate those variety shows. The only exception was the Smothers Brothers' one. The rest had maybe one marginally good thing and the rest was crap -- like a guy playing the kazoo while dogs jumped through hoops and a little French mouse puppet. I would rather watch paint dry.

I always was an ol' poop about the so-called "variety" shows. My mother liked them; my father turned off his hearing aid and studiously read the paper; and I went to my room.

Katie Melua
Paul Daniels
Charlie Caroli the clown
Jack Dee
Pink and Perky
Basil Brush

Forget the kids they would never watch Ed Sullivan this day and time.

But I'd book,

Dean Martin,
Julio Eglases'spell',
Rolling Stones,
Three Dog Night,
Mark Chestnut,
Aerosmith
