Here we go again (another hurricane)

Looks like Louisiana might be the target, although the forecast hints at possibly less than T.S. winds by landfall. However, this is part of the Refinery coast, so fill up now, imo.

Yes, fill up now as the price of gas will go up in the south east whether “18” makes landfall as a hurricane (name will be Rafael) or not🤐🤐

The Cone of Uncertainty looks to be aimed straight at Mobile Bay.

It seems the storm patterns, especially this year, have been very difficult to predict with an accurate landing point.
We are not done cleaning up the debris from the last one in my region. I am not looking forward to see high winds coming back to us this soon!

Have a battery-powered radio with a charge and/or spare fresh batteries.

People in the hills mostly relied on AM, though on the flat local FM is probably good enough. Maybe test ahead of time so you know where to tune for both local and slightly more distant stations. Many might go off the air.

I read that a guy had good luck listening on via his analog "police scanner" receiver too, but I wouldn't run out to buy one. There aren't many decent cheapos and you probably won't get a lot of use out of it most of the year. He was mostly listening in on the guys clearing roads and restoring power and such.

I keep my cell phone and IPad fully charged when there are serious storm warnings.

The power company told me, I sit on the second highest spot in the county. This land has great natural drainage, we are not in a “earthquake zone”, so my biggest worry is high wind.

I have only heard my road name called out twice in 21 years for tornado warnings and believe me, I head for cover when that happens🤯🤯

I let my horses decide if they want in the barn or to stay outside. Good sized hail is an issue with the serious storms so they head for the barn. Anything over pea-sized hail can hurt livestock. One of my horses has mild kissing spine from his life as a show jumper (not me) so even a heavy rain bothers him.

And the retired show jumper sez: “Nupe. Not going out there.”🐎.

The handsome and very gentle dude was gifted to me as a companion, when I lost my 27 yr old TWH to colic. He came from Southern California and had barely seen rain in his life. The lady who gifted him to me got him out of a bad situation— it was either me, 2,200 miles away, or that Long Black Train Ride to Central Mexico where they slit throats and let the animal bleed out - I’m not kidding. He is here for the duration and there is a place for him in The Pet Sematary.
