Here's what you do when you have a power outage!

Yes, you create new body part photos. Our power just came back on after going out at 6:30 yeasterday morning...

Thanks, but I only draw during power outages and I'm hoping that I don't see anymore during my "twilight" years. The only good that came out of this is that it made appreciate living a modern society--when everything is working!

The real suffering happened at the cocktail hour when I was punished with a warm martini...

Bring in your yard solar light!!

Actually, I don't even have to turn it on. It is installed just outside and against the house and sits on a pad like the A/C. When the power goes out or as the instructions call it, "interrupted", the generator comes on automatically and runs on natural gas. Click on the link to read more. I recommend it for those that have been thinking about something like this. This is the same one that we have.

Thanks, but I live in a condo and no dogs or generators are allowed...

That would be ideal!! But...we are in the boonies and are all electric!!

Ralphy, I see you are still smiling even after all the suffering you have endured. How inspiring!

Never had a generator either.... not even through days of outages after hurricanes.
Live near the city, but live in an all-electric area too. .. . I rely on solar lighting in the kitchen for black-outs, and many battery powered things that include a fan, radio, TV, lights/lanterns.

Never doodled any art projects at those times either, but Abraham Lincoln crossed my mind. :p

Yes, Glinda, I am a walking (more sitting these days) inspiration to one and alll...

I turn on the generator.

Yup, when we moved to the boondocks, a generator was one of the first things I bought. Our's isn't as sophisticated as one of the "Auto on" units...its just a 6500 watt Coleman...but it gives us the basics if/when we lose power. Luckily, the local power has been very reliable, and I've only used it 3 or 4 times in all these years...maybe a total of 30 hours. I run it for about 5 minutes every 5 or 6 weeks to keep it in "ready to go" shape.

If I didn't have a temporary power failure once a week for less then an hour here in Brevard County,Fl then something is REALLY wrong.
Its the norm here.

I have never lost power in Arizona in the 10 years I've been here.

The primary reason for lost power is probably huge trees falling across power lines....at least, in this area. Once you get a few miles South of Flagstaff, there probably isn't a tree in Arizona tall enough to reach the power lines. Here, the local power company sends crews out year round to trim off any big trees or branches that are growing too close to the power lines....and that helps a Bunch. They hit our area at least once every two years.

Yes, trees on power lines in town here cause an outage almost every thunderstorm with wind.

I used to have a gas water heater so I could at least have hot water and lukewarm instant coffee, lol. Still have a gas space heater.
It's probably illegal now.

Don't want to know.

Our power here is all underground where we live, no power lines.

A few years of my childhood on the Oregon coast we didn't any power to our house (wood stove for heat and cooking, out house, oil lamps, hand pump on the well) and that's where I learned to love reading so much. Then my dad wired in 110 so we had lights and a refrigerator but still electric stove and the best part was we could listen to the radio! :) We thought we were pretty fancy then!

Our kitchen range now looks like a gas stove but it's propane and if the power goes out we can light the burners and cook. Our heat is wood or portable electric heaters. Most phones now need electric to work so we have one plain one that will work without power so we can call PG&E and tell them our power is out. Our cell phones don't work up here unless we stumble around the back yard awhile and maybe get a signal.

Underock, it was still daylight while I suffered with my warm martini and my sweaty body due to no AC...
