Hi just introduced myself a few minutes ago. I'm 66 and I am having a laproscopic hernia surgery.Anyone else have it done? I 'm scared! did any guys have to have a cathader?? That's what scares me . Thanks!

I had a double hernia a little over a year ago. It's not bad, I didn't even take but a few of the pain pills afterward.

After all the prep one has to do for a colonoscopy, I'd rather have some "chicken wire" placed in my gut than that.

Piece of cake....No catheter.

I have had two of them, one on each side. One used a catheter during the operation and then removed it.

This operation was a "piece of cake" compared to rotator cuff surgery or all the misery associated with prostrate cancer.

One tip: if you find that you have to sneeze or cough after the operation, bend over a bit so that you body doesn't jerk quite so much.

I was told I have a small hernia. I've never had it repaired, but I did have a catheter for a week. As long as it's put in while you're not awake, it's not too bad, it's just inconvenient.

As a freshman in college my roommate had a hernia operation and during recuperation he was told avoid laughing at all costs. Well, being of freshman college mentality naturally we did everything possible to make him laugh.

Hi folks; you guys made my day!! thank you for the vote of confidence!! I'm a real chicken I guess ....Well I'll posting stuff here and checking stuff out from now on. Thanks!!!

Depends on what sort of hernia it is. I had an Inguinal hernia that was operated on with open surgery under a local anaesthetic. No big deal at all.. I lay there chatting to the technician while the surgeon went about his business. Some pain for a few days, but it healed up quickly. Catheter? Why?

If I had it done laproscopically, it would have been a general anaesthetic which I didn't fancy. Local is much safer and has a number of other benefits.

Mine was a hiatal hernia repair near the stomach....but also had surgery to insert a Linx magnetic ring around the lower part of my esophagus to keep acid reflux from coming up....the recovery was brutal and the surgery didnt work, far as Im concerned....good luck tho....
