Hey Everybody: Computers :-)

Live long and prosper!
Hey Everybody! I am slowly getting caught up. I am on a very slow computer at the moment, my backup. My laptop's battery gave up the ghost even though I was charging it. I had it for a year. I love computers, even though they can be a pain sometimes, loll! I ordered a battery for my laptop won't be here until April 7th. sheesh, guess I am still learning patience :) I try refurb's but be cautious most of them suck. I ordered a new hard drive this time with 8 GB so it works faster. Then I will be able to look at all the awesome threads you guys post :) I do the best I can for now. I am self-taught with computer tech stuff and I know how to take a computer apart and all that literally. It's quite interesting how computers are made. I know how to load and reload Windows 10 which is awesome! Anyways, I hope you all have a great weekend! Lots of snow here almost 3 feet and the power stayed on thank goodness in the teens in the mornings. Too chilly for a walk outside but I do have a nice treadmill that I like. Got to stay strong as we all do. Lots of love and hugs ya all!

I have an old desktop that I still use and my daughter just recently gave me a laptop. I like the convenience of being able to use it anywhere. I couldn't seem to get the hang of not using a mouse.
Then she gave me a mouse with no wires. That was nice but I thought it was broke. I called her and she asked me if I put batteries in it. I had no idea it needed them. Works fine now. lol

Hi Cheryl, I had good luck with a refurbished computer, it's a desktop model, and believe its because of the good place I got in from in my city. The guy is excellent with computers and does and knows everything.

I wonder where the heck are you that has 3 feet of snow? Oh my! That's a whole heap of snow! Haven't ever seen anything like that here.

I hope your weekend is a good one and stay safe! (y) ;)

HI Cheryl... hopefully the wait won't feel like forever for your new HD. and you'll be able to see photos and play Youtbe vids galore when it gets there..

I work from a brand new Apple Mac desktop with a 26 inch monitor.. ..

Hubs also has an Imac desktop...

I have a superb Toshiba laptop that I've had for many years.. which is in mint condition and works as well as it did when new... ( that's the only thing using microsoft in this house)... and I take it with me when I go away on trips...

Got my laptop, and my iphone, so I'm fortunate to have enough to keep me connected digitally..

Sorry you're having the snow, we've had glorious weather here and lots more sun to come. I posted some of my spring flowers today on the forum but probably with you slow computer you may not be able to see them so we'll wait until you're up and running properly :D

I am using a new desktop that I bought after the last one failed after about 10 years. I am not comfortable with a laptop. First off using a laptop causes my neck to hurt, and secondly the arthritis in my hands makes it almost impossible to contend with a laptop keyboard.

I can imagine that would be the case , because of the way the keyboard is laid out flat ..

I have issues with the trackpad on my laptop, I have never been able to control it, so I always attach a mouse, which really means I may as well be sitting at my desktop, because using a mouse with the lappy necessitates finding a hard surface to roll the mouse on, so by the time I set up next to a table or get something next to me for the mouse to be able to work on like a mat or a book. ..I may as well just have used my Desktop. Although it's handy to have the laptop for occasional uses , I wouldn't ever use it full time if I could possibly help it.. ..I'd rather use my Ipad for quickness when I'm far away from the desktop...

Cheryl Pamela, try this, take your Lap-Top battery
and put it in a plastic bag well sealed, then put it
into the freezer for 24 hours.

Take it out of the freezer and put it back into the
Lap-Top and try to charge it, that works in many
cases.

Hollydolly, your wireless mouse will work on most
surfaces, I work it on the arm of the sofa, even on
my thigh, but you need to remember to plug in the
little receiver thing that comes with it though.

Mike.

I've just had to order a new battery fro my ancient Dell laptop. Hopefully it should arrive in a couple of days. My house has very thick walls and so WiFi connection is poor. When I tried using a wireless mouse, it interfered with the WiFi and performance was terrible. I tried changing channel etc, but had to go back to a wired mouse.

Cheryl, and 8gb hard drive won't hold much data or help performance. Do you mean 8 gb RAM? I could do with more RAM in this machine, though Mrs. L says what I need is a new laptop.

I have done away with Windows and only use Linux now.

Hey, everyone! Yeah, my laptop is cool well see about the battery. The battery is in the garage it's freezing in there, so maybe that will work loll! My hard drive will be here this week, hopefully, more snow, rain. I love it :) I will have more pic's when I can download them to show you all. I will be able to respond to you individually when my hard drive comes. Barely 2.0 GB on this one glad it does work. I have sort of had good luck with some refurbs I guess it depends on where you order from. Lots of love and hugs all have a great the rest of your weekend :)

that's my point though Gary.. If I'm having to use a surface to use a mouse with a lappy, then I may as well just stick to my Desktop Mac..
That was where my mind was
I loved my desk top...loved it
But.....it wouldn't take the win10 upgrade, of which I needed for banking and other essentials
Got the 'lappy' (love the English for these kinda terms) and looked at it for days...maybe weeks
Then played with it
bitched/moaned
Finally stayed with it and dug a bit into the win10 format
Good...really really good, especially for favs and email and transferred the old ms-paint program from my desky

I have to have a mouse, no matter what kind of computer
not good with running my finger around that goofy square below my spacebar

The leather folder rocks
Just the right surface
And lots of it

And when Ken N Tx showed me the way to florescent key pads, well, nobody's gonna git this lappy outa my lappy

Cheryl Pamela, put it in your freezer you need
to really chill it to around -28C which is -18F,
I don't think that your garage is that cold.

Holly, you might try a trackball type mouse (that has an actual large ball on top). The mouse sits stationary and you roll the ball around with your fingers. Like this one... https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tra...er+ball+mouse+for+apple&qid=1584900602&sr=8-3

My laptop has a setting to change the sensitivity of the touch pad which helps a LOT. My touch pad used to make me crazy(er) because any accidental touch moved the cursor and turned me into the "cursor." :D

My mouse for my PC has been giving me problems, I wonder if it needs to be replaced.

Sometimes when I click the mouse on the left, this pop-up comes on and keeps coming on (could be any) and won't let me keep typing. At first I saw lots of cat hair inside the hole underneath with the red light on it, but when I vacuumed the hair out, it was better but still did it. It's very irritating. I'm thinking of buying a wireless one at Amazon, it's only like $19, but I hate to buy a replacement if it's not necessary (I'm very frugal). Any suggestions? Any fix-its? Or do I need to bite the bullet and spend the money for a new one?

Sorry for hijacking, Cheryl, I didn't want to start a new thread.

Wireless mouse and laptop here. Had no luck with three Mitutoyas but the Dell I have now is close to 8 years old and still going strong. I think I'll try a refurbished one next if this Dell ever dies.
