Thread title is just my feeble attempt at a play-on-words of "Sweet Home Alabama". I just retired so I'm Livin' the Sweet Life now (not to be confused with "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" tsk tsk). My grown children have scattered from Alaska to San Diego to Denver (one remains nearby) and our last family pet just passed on (age 23)…so things suddenly got quiet in the house (no TV either) even though I stay busy with swimming, artwork, poetry, selling vintage items on Ebay, road trips, and random funstuff indoor and out.

On the down side, I raised my children myself as their father had a heart attack at age 46 when the children were ages 1,3,4,and 6. But on the upside, we survived and 3 of my children are successful business owners now...my 4th is a professional "adventure seeker/traveler":love_heart: and taking on random jobs like on a fishing boat in the Bering Sea (gotta' love him. I never should have taken him to the Raiders of the Lost Ark Show at Disneyland haha).

I've moved every three years of my life (even Japan) so I lack many friends that people usually grow up with...thus, here I am. I made a post and have already experienced the friendliness here. Instant friends! I love the format too. I've read several threads and I look forward to joining in with this wonderful group!!

Peace and Love to all. Be gentle, kind, courageous and keep looking up :cheerful:

Hya Lara...from London, and welcome to SF , you sound like you have a very full life so I'm sure you'll enjoy the folks in this group who are fairly scattered worldwide, and are mostly very friendly.

if you need any help with how to's and how not to's... do please feel free to give a shout out, we were all new once.. :D

HAHA Teejay, I've only been to Quebec to ski (long ago) at the now closed (2009) Gray Rocks Inn…Mont Tremblant was absolutely beautiful in the Laurentian Mountains. I read that last year, in November, the inn was 70% destroyed by a suspicious fire. How tragic as it was a magnificent mansion. I have sweet memories from there.

And thank you Apple and Holly for the welcome sign and angelic flower bouquet…pretty! If I travel to Europe I'd want to see London! Sadly, I've never been to Europe.

Hi Lara, thanks for the 'earworm'! :p

Oh Seabreeze, I had forgotten what "earworm" meant and had to google it. I know, I know, what you mean about Sweet Home Alabama…oops, did that do it again?

Thanks for a good dose of laughter today, Meander and Falcon. Cross country skiing is a lot of work! It's deceiving until you get out there and try it. I do it in my swimming pool (without the gear of course) for an aqua fit type exercise that's very effective for stretching the leg and arm muscles and you can get your cardio too if you go fast enough with the water resistance…looks a little odd but we baby boomers are an odd sort

Welcome Lara from west Scotland! I'm originally from the US and was looking at relocating to the NC coast when I met my Scottish husband!

:welcome: from Savannah, Tn. Your a fantastic woman to have had to raise your 4 wonderful children on your own, Lara... and seems there is usually a professional free spirit in every son or daughter at sometime in their life.. I think you will enjoy your time here.. come play some games too if you like..

"....come play some games too if you like.."

Welcome to the place, Lara! Hey, I figured the whole place was a game! imp

Sheesh! My nephew in the Marine Corps. is currently stationed in Jacksonville (the Carolina, not FL!), and he mentioned last time we talked it was in the mid-90`s, and similar humidity. Is Florida hotter than that?

Facetiously glossing over our own 118` or so, here in the desert. NOT a dry heat this time of year! R.H. has been ranging 25-35% last few days! Whew! imp

Thank you Jim, Ameriscot, tinytn, imp, and jujube! Imp, yes, we've had a lot of temps in the 90s and a few over 100, AND humidity!
I'll try the games sometimes. I have a sister in Tucson, Jim. Welcome to NC ,jujube...I was born in Ft. Lauderdale!

How often can we introduce ourselves here?!! This is a lot of fun! :grouphug:

Glad you've decided to join our forum. Sort of by definition we've all trod a long path to get here and we all have a lot of lessons learned and interesting stories to tell. Your frequent relocations suggest your history is a particularly interesting one. I hope you'll share it with us.

Thank you for the warm welcome Josiah, yes, lots of lessons and stories to tell but I'm afraid my "frequent relocations" is far from interesting...as far as the reason for it goes. My father was in the Navy and stationed all over the place every three years. It was a fascinating life though as far as seeing America, including Hawaii….and Japan was the only overseas place. Now THAT was an interesting culture to live amongst (we didn't live on the naval base but rather in the seaside village of Hayama). I have very fond memories of Japan.

Welcome, Lara, from San Diego! And thanks for filling out your profile as many new members don't. :( You sound like a very interesting addition to our motley crew and we look forward to getting to know you!

Thank you, Jackie and Glinda! I used to live in San Diego for 14 yrs. and loved it! I was in Cardiff-by-the-Sea and then Leucadia on a bluff overlooking La Costa. Beautiful everywhere you look and, ahhh, the weather! The way real estate has skyrocketed since, I'd never be able to afford to move back…otherwise, I might have…but my family is here in NC. You're blessed. The breeze and the ocean are very healing.

Hey, we have two new members from The Old North State. Pretty soon, we Tar Heels can make up a majority and rule the boards!

Welcome!
