Based on experience and hints for a nurse, I wrote this up for a relative who was having a procedure. Rather than add this to other posts, it might get missed.
Hints for a Colonoscopy.
Follow the instructions!
3 days prior, avoid meat, especially red.
Avoid nuts or whatever the instructions say.
Everything you eat will be cleared out!
Pico Silas - if that is what is prescribed
- pick a flavour you like
- Drink it COLD.
- if it warms up prior to drinking it all, put it in the freezer to cool it down quickly.
- drink it with a straw which you put at the back of your tongue. This is really helpful.
The day of the prep
- follow the instructions - what I’m suggesting may not be approved by your doctor
- no red or purple coloured food or drinks
- jello is usually ok
- Campbell’s broth - chicken, vegetable, beef
- electrolytes are important.
- clear liquids
- Gatorade - I found it too sweet. That’s probably just me.
- lots of room temperature water. You’re going to be drinking lots of this.
Once it starts, and you’ll know it started.
- be very close to the bathroom
- have very soft toilet paper
- Destin or other baby butt cream
You might feel bloated
- have a hot water bottle or heating pad available.
The day of:
- my hospital wouldn’t do the procedure until they saw the designated driver.
Good luck.
