I heard news on it the other day and this is what I found available so far: https://www.greaterthan.org/we-can-end-this-epidemic/

And this later: https://interestingengineering.com/breakthrough-hiv-vaccine-set-to-start-human-trials-in-2019

"Over the past several years, HIV researchers have discovered many powerful, naturally occurring antibodies that can prevent multiple HIV strains from infecting human cells in the laboratory," NIAID explained in a statement. "About half of people living with HIV make these so-called "broadly neutralizing" antibodies, but usually only after several years of infection -- long after the virus has established a foothold in the body."

"Scientists have identified and characterized the sites, or epitopes, on HIV where each known broadly neutralizing antibody binds," the team continued. "Many laboratories around the world are developing HIV vaccine candidates based on the structure of these epitopes with the goal of coaxing the immune systems of HIV-negative people to make protective antibodies after vaccination."
Researchers John Mascola and Peter Kwong led the team in discovering this potentially life-saving vaccine. The NIAID group is currently working on updating and tweaking the vaccine. They've already conducted several successful monkey trials and are using that data in order to create a more ideal version before human subjects are used by 2019.

Sounds to me like they are making great progress towards a vaccine to help end this awful disease!

Well, since this is primarily a disease of choices / behavior,.. it is not at the top of the list , of my concerns.

How about science work harder on, cancers [all of them], alzheimer's , arthritis, diabetes, fibro-mialgia , etc & so-on.

Of course those are big money makers, so not likely to be "cured" anytime soon.

There are many innocent victims of HIV infection. But I understand being more in favor of one disease over another, such as I would like more research on pulmonary fibrosis which my mother developed and died from. Most likely from when she worked in fabric cutting work where the material was imported from overseas and full of chemical dust.

I don't see HIV/AIDS as a disease of choice as much a disease of Russian roulette or chance.

Make that Richard.:):playful::eek:nthego:

The cure/vaccine for one disease may help lead to the cure for another disease.

Likely all three, but still.....if the risky behavior / choice were avoided?....

That's an easy decision for us old folks but I really don't think that young people should be afraid that they might die from something as basic as having sex.

Anyway, I'm glad that they are making progress on a vaccine for this terrible disease.

I'm glad for the progress as well but.......it wasn't just sex, it was mostly unprotected homosexual sex...and i don't believe it was any secret. That & in many cases sharing needles in doing drugs.

I doubt there will be an effective vaccine for AIDS. But that doesn't mean they won't market one; it will certainly sell. Now is a good time for it because more & more people aren't buying the effectiveness of the flu vaccine.

There was a time years ago when I was afraid of AIDS; & I'm not gay. You may remember that dentist in Florida who intentionally infected his patients with AIDS because he thought not enough funding was going to AIDS research & he thought if more people who weren't gay got it, they would pay more attention to it. He killed several people & ruined the lives of many others. For several years, I wouldn't let ANY doctor or dentist near me with a needle.
