A heat dome, whatever that is, will "settle" over the Southern and Midwest states for at least two weeks, is what I think I understand.

Every year, meteorologists attend a seminar or two. There, in addition to learning about the latest forecasting gizmos and theory, they are given the new buzzwords and jargon for the coming year. Atmospheric River was one of a few years ago and now heat domes seem all the rage. Weather is still weather but what they call things changes...usually to the more dramatic.

My area is also stuck under a heat dome for the second time this year.

The humidity & dewponts are what makes these temps so brutal. I was at the barn from 6:00 AM TO 10:15AM with plenty of water, literally packed in two full trays of ice cubes, two huge barrel fans running, and a decent breeze under the overhang.

I still wanted to throw up when I got up to the house and this day was mostly cloud cover —- the lesser heat day of the rest of the week. We may see Feels Like of 105-110 toward Thursday.

I have lived here 22 years and the seasons have changed a lot since I came here. Even the people who were born and raised in this area say this weather is not what they remember growing up with.

we are fortunate that the extreme heat started later in the summer this year. last year i think it was already in the 100s the first week or two of june.

In 2021 we were in a heat dome. Young birds actually fell out the trees. Those that could fly didn’t have enough water. One was leaning up against our patio door. It looked so sad. When we stirred it ran away. We were so sad then too.

That was the first and only heat dome we’ve had here. We have hot summers, nothing like this.

It's nice and toasty every day here in sunny Florida. Feels like temp yesterday was 109. Probably will be about the same thru October.

I was looking at the weather page I go to. The heat dome has caused heat advisories for us through the 23rd of the this month. Then back into the 90s.

No they don't. I was married to one for nearly 20 years. He never went to a "seminar," and they sure as heck never made up any dramatic terms.
