I greatly want to and enjoy first holding a woman's hand once a friendly relationship begins to develop. Especially walking about publicly. That is the way a woman's trust and respect begins to develop. A warm wonderful experience for both.
Growing up I learned an appropriate gradual sequence over time of how to touch women that has been lost and as a twentysomething read about it in psychology classes. Why was this lost in subsequent generations? Film media is certainly one source to blame. During my early adult years found that large numbers of men had little sense of such especially in social situations where aggressive impatience dominates.

I was having a really super dream. Olivia Newton John and I were walking hand in hand along the seashore at the waters edge, she turned to me and whispered, "Timmy, Timmy, Timmy", and I whispered to her, "Livvy, Livvy, Livvy", and she moaned, "Timmy, Timmy, Timmy", and that's when I was woken by that bluddee postman with his thumb stuck to my doorbell.

My husband and I were hand holders from day one. I remember after we were married, we had gone for dinner at an Indian restaurant in Montclair, N.J. It's a cute little, artsy town. We decided to take a stroll and were holding hands. A car with young people drove by and stopped to tell us they thought it was so cute and sweet to see us holding hands. Guess it surprised them to see we "old folks" acting like young romantics.

Probably an average hand holder here.
I clearly remember, and always will, my first hand holding experience, we were about 14 and in the backseat of her parents car (they were in front). It was my first feeling of romance, even a bit erotic (just hands were held). A nice memory.
I think about the only time my husband and I hold hands now (after 38 years) is when one of us feels nervous or skittish about something. Holding his hand makes me feel more courageous for some reason. When he reaches for my hand I know he's feeling a little insecure about something. I guess it's like "got your back, Jack!" for us.
Once when I was grocery shopping I was standing just looking at something on the shelf, and a small hand suddenly held on to mine. I looked down and saw this small child who thought she was holding her mom's hand. I said, well, hello! The look on her face was priceless, surprised and somewhat horrified. Needless to say she dropped my hand and after looking around a bit, she saw her mom and ran. Where's a camera when you need one!

In some third world countries I've visited, people walking about often hold hands as friendship but varies depending on specific cultural norms.

When I was little my friends and I held hands. As adults, I don't see it done here in the U.S. unless it's a mother and daughter sometimes.

We've always held hands quite a bit when out and about......don't even think about it it just seems like the natural thing to do.
