Holiday and Winter Decorating.

I"m not decorating this year. I have some beautiful decorations and a huge fake tree and all the lights etc in the loft.. but I'm not doing it this year. I have the grandfurkids coming so they get so excited everything will get broken...

I'll light my Candelabra and place it in the window as I always do, and I'll put the wreath on the door.. and I may put all the lights up around the windows.. but otherwise nothing more traditional as I would usually..

It's always dicey with fur balls. I've never had a tree (we didn't have Christmas when I was a kid) and won't. I can't resist some of the holiday stuff I'm finding at the thrift store. I hang ornaments on the wall. I've decided to keep everything up 6 months and then spring/summer up 6 months.

My daughter hauled our artificial pre-lit tree over here from my husband's house, and then went and bought new ornaments for it. It looks good, but no tinsel, and a lot of the ornaments are pink. She wasn't up for hauling all my large Rubbermaid boxes full of decorations and ornaments over here, and I don't blame her. Actually, I don't care one way or the other. It will be a lot less time-consuming to un-decorate the house this year, and that's fine with me. The tree is pretty.

We usually have two trees, one in the lounge and a small one in the kitchen. They are simply decorated usually with white lights and silver baubles. In the past we had a symbolic Yule log with coloured candles to celebrate the Solstice.

I don't bother with Christmas as such - I just tend to observe it as a mid-winter festival and would be happy if the Solstice was the 'official' holiday. As I've noted before, celebrating Christmas was banned in Scotland for 400 years, probably giving rise to the popularity of Hogmanay. Christmas day was not recognised officially as a public holiday until 1971, though of course by then, it was celebrated widely.

We stopped getting trees because our male dog who never could figure out the difference between an indoor tree and an outdoor tree.
'Nuff said on that score?

DH & I decorate until we stop feeling the joy. This year we're giving our kids the decorations we no longer want and will donate whatever they decide against.

About this time of year, I really miss our Sheepdog, Freddie. We always bought him a special gift for Christmas, and wrapped and put it under the tree. The kids pointed the gift out to him enough times, so he knew it was his.

If anyone came near the tree or his present, he would lay down and guard it fiercely ... Freddie made our Christmas! đź’•

Wow, I didn't know that about Christmas being banned! I don't celebrate Christmas either as we didn't have it growing up. But I finally decided I can do some seasonal decorating. I put ornaments on the wall or in bowls. I love deer and winter theme items. I love the winter solstice. It's one of my favorite days. The only bad part is the days start getting longer again. I love winter. I'm probably living in the wrong place. :)

OMG on your dog! Yes donate your unwanted Christmas items. I can tell you they are flying out of the thrift stores and I'm helping with that. I'm going to our PAWS thrift again today.
