Holiday picnics

Went out to the store yesterday, at about 'prime-time' 4:pm. Not one picnic , backyard barbeque ,party etc ..... was going on. I have noticed that over the last few years, this seems to be . Do people not do this any longer?

I have lived here for 18 yrs now. It used to be damn near every house had something going on. I can remember holidays where there were virtually no parking spaces on the street. Yesterday the street was empty, the entire neighborhood quiet as a church ??

There were some going on here, but not many. Locally, I attributed it to the 90 degree weather.
In my neighborhood I saw a few people cooking outside, but going inside to eat.

There were a few little gatherings in my apartment complex and the small town parades, fireworks, etc... were well attended.

I have noticed a trend among younger folks not to entertain at home but to meet people out for a drink or a meal. That works for me, less stress, cleaning, and expense involved plus you can leave when you are ready.

There were organized large concert and fireworks shows for the 4th around here. People just gathered up their families and went to those for the afternoon/evening.
