Home Decor Match The Area Or State You Live In?

When we lived in Colorado, we had three beautifully painted ceramic cowboys and an Indian, an entire wall devoted to rodeo and old TV Western stars and their horses, Indian Chiefs and had a subscription to Farm & Ranch Magazine. Had a Hat Rack with our cowboy hats and baseball caps on it. Our tall gun/rifle case sat beside the front door. Yep, anyone who came into our house knew right off that part of our lifestyle was Western/rodeo/cowboy, as much of Colorado is known for. Obviously not everyone living in Colorado has their home decorated like ours was, but we moved there due to Western stuff and our involvement in pro-rodeo.

Now, when we moved here to Florida, the ceramic cowboys/Indian were given to the Goodwill, the cowboy hats stored in boxes in a closet, but kept a wall for our rodeo and old TV Western pictures. Our gun/rifle case had to go into the closet, due to the Renter's Policy. We bought pictures and painted ceramics of lighthouses and displayed them. Of course, when we first moved here, we really thought "this is it", but have changed that thought. Now, in making plans on going back to a "Western State" (to us, anyway), all of our Florida stuff will go.

So, is your home decorated to match where you live? Many folks who live in the Southwest, furnish their homes/apartments with Southwest stuff. People who live along a surfing/beach area would probably have ocean and surfing pictures on their walls.

What do you think?

Nope!

My little apartment is a tasteful blend of hand me downs, street finds, thrift shop and flea market clutter. A thick coating of dust helps to draw it all together and create a casual lived in look. I think that I only have two items of furniture in my apartment that were purchased new, it took years and years but now they look right at home.

At the moment I am between residences so this temporary apartment is just the basics. But I do have a trailer for use from May till October season and since that is in the country and close to the lake it is furnished accordingly if I ever get it done (recent purchase)

I bought a used country style kitchen set for refinishing, have a wreath I made on the wall which features a centre with baked goods and says "welcome to my country kitchen" and ruffled placemats, pine shelves, lots of comfy cushions on a great big sofa.

Started work on the outside last fall, Pinky is the main feature, a 5' high flamingo which holds a pink geranium.

I can't wait to finish decorating, it's fun

Furniture in the TV room is Rattan....mostly Shore deco on walls....I like light walls, light tan and light green....My front living room is traditional and hubby's den is traditional...
Our outside yard we have in ground pool and gazebo.. We are at the Jersey Shore...Not by the ocean...inland a ways....

Our home is not decorated, it is lived in. There are scattered remnants of 40 years of what ever passing fancy caught our eye. We don't much go for rules and formulas.

Heck a lot of HOA type folks would refer to us as THAT HOUSE!

Like I’ve already stated about how some folks, like us, decorate for where we live (and our interests) while others just decorate.

One thing for sure, we like “Western - cowboy - rodeo” decor with a picture or two of Elk I’ve taken.

In our home It's all about what we like and not what matches or what the decor should be. Lately we have added comfort as being important. Two nice recliners in our little sitting room, both the same because they are so comfortable. We also have items that are meaningful. A jelly cabinet my Grandpa made for my Grandma is in our living as well as my Mom's collection of tea cups and carvings my uncle made in the 40's. That makes a house a home in my book.

We just have regular old stuff. Being military we do have things from all over. Some Western, Native American, Korean, Saudi. Still have a lot of things around from the 70s, 80s now "vintage".

I'm not tied to any theme that indicates my state. Whaling? Fish? Clocks? Gun Manufacturers? Don't think so. I like art that appeals to my own taste and imagination, not just what my state is known for. I have my own mind.

To each, his own.

Don’t want to give anyone the impression that our home decor is chosen purely with the state we live in in mind, not so. But, since Colorado is, in some ways, Western/cowboy/rodeo related, and we love those things anyway, it was easy to decorate there.

When we moved to Florida, we decided that Lighthouses and boat pictures would look cool.
