Home Internet price just went up, any tips?

If you could get by on 100 mbps that would make your bill cheaper.
I have (had) 100 meg which is way more than I need. My internet co just increased all the 100 meg customers to 200 meg, for free. OK, fine, just don't ask me for more money when the annual bump-up in rates happens next.

They did that to us. They bumped us up for free and didn't bother to tell us after a few months we'd be paying 20 bucks more.

Plus they took the unlimited data off my original plan and never informed me.

I have Verizon Fios and I just got a deal ...$89.99 for 1 Gig of internet service that covers my computer, T.V. and mobile devices. I say deal because I was paying $69.99 for 500 Mbps and was notified that in December the price was going up to $79.99 for the same. I've gotten deals by calling and requesting them. I asked about senior discounts which is how I got the $69.99 price for a few years. I called about an issue last time and was told about the special for the 1 gig plan. Something like @C50's advice, calling and saying the bill is too high for you might be worth a try.

I got an email this week to call Verizon to claim my loyalty reward, an extra $25 off a month for 12 months. Since I'm not sure if it's a phishing email, I won't call the number given in the email, but the one on Verizon's website to see if it's legit.

It’s nice when you can chose your service provider and maybe get a break on prices.

The Management Company at my apartments has a contract with AT &T, and so I’m locked in with them
… only choice is which services I want, and the speed for Internet.

So now we can get broadband through cable, fiber optic, and 5G. My wife relies on internet access for her work, so we need a stable connection. I don't know if I'd trust the phone signal for that. But now T-Mobile is starting to offer fiber optic in my neighborhood for quite a bit less than what we're paying for Xfinity cable broadband.

I think I'll go and have a little talk with the sales people at Xfinity. I'm sure they'll lower my rates if they know I can get it cheaper through another provider.

Wireline internet providers have competition from wireless/cell phone companies so they have to compete with lower prices and alternative services which is good IF one is one of those areas.

Other providers are also going with/offering wireless internet but it's dependent on their local cell network.

I'm currently looking into a hot spot with some having pay as go type service. It all depends on what wants to do with it. I need data a make some stock/bank transactions. Stock research programs even if a custom list seems to consume more bytes than an actual transaciton.
