Homeowners Insurance companies are using drones to photograph our properties.

I got a letter yesterday saying my insurance will not be renewed due to trees touching or overhanging a structure. Today my agent sent me a drone photo of my property. Now I am scrambling to correct the situation.
If you have to hire someone to remove limbs or trees you can tell them (after their quote) you want a discount for salvage. If the wood is large enough for them to sell, they should discount you. I hope the situation is not too huge.

Thanks RR. I am waiting for estimates. It will be high.

I can understand the insurance agents going after folks who lie about what they have on their properties. There’re folks with pools, junky buildings and sheds, etc: it will catch them. You were an innocent customer, @Alizerine. Maybe this will keep you more safe from something you never thought about. Let’s catch the scammers.

I got an e-mail from State Farm saying I had 15 days to fill in an on-line questionnaire and send specific photos of my house and garage or they would send somebody to do it. So I did it. Later, I got a letter saying that they didn't like the looks of my roof and I have one year to have it replaced or face cancellation. My roof is sound, no bad shingles, but has some loss of the grit covering. My homeowners insurance bill this year increased by almost $200. That was before the questionnaire.

Upkeep can be such a batch! Ever hear the quote, I hate trees. I have around $10,000 in tree
removal costs to instal Solar when it is probated as no option there. Gestapo controls in stated effect.
Shingles flipping up, high winds blowing them off, falling limbs, its repairs time.
Sure, roofing is a Scam at cha. 3" hail kills every roof. Roofs done 10 years ago, replaced. Hail and high Winds!
Yea I fired State Farm over 25 years ago.

@Grampa Don, can you get a home inspection company to come in and give a report. Shadows on your roof may have been misleading.
No, they specifically mention the loss of grit on the shingles as the cause of their demand. And, it's true they have lost some grit with each rain storm. But, that has no effect on the structure of the shingle itself. Anyway, I have a year to take care of it.

State Farm is refusing to renew some policies in fire or flood prone areas, but that doesn't affect me. The insurance companies are getting goosy about loss. As the weather gets worse we can expect more of it.

Had that happen to me a few years ago, let's say I was caught out in my tighty whities, which is a violation on their side. Let's say they kept their mouth shut so I did not have to open mine!! (to a lawyer)

I have State Farm and so far so good ... except ...
My yearly homeowners bill continues to go up each year.

Last year I contacted my agent to take a look at the policy to see that any and all discounts are applied. I bundle homeowners with auto and I have two autos. Have never submitted a claim to State Farm in 18yrs here and have no legal infractions home or auto during that time.

Agent responded back that the reason the homeowners rate went up last year was because a higher value was placed on my home than previously insured for. I think the cost of replacing/rebuilding homes in the case of catastrophic loss has risen as well as the value of homes over all. So I accept that the rate was increased, while he offered to change the policy back to the previous home valuation which I declined. Barring that circumstance, will be interesting to see how things go next year when the yearly homeowners insurance bill comes due.

I could shop around but don't think I'd save much in the long run. Besides, I have an American Pit Bull Terrier (almost 13yrs old) and while some companies have an issue with covering liability of homes with Pit Bulls, State Farm has no problem with it.
