Homeowner's Insurance Not Renewed: A Rant

Thanks for the links, @Lethe200. According to CalFire Fire Hazard Severity Zones | OSFM, my property's risk level"

The geographic center of this parcel is located in an area that the State Fire Marshal has identified as having no Fire Hazard Severity Zone in Local Responsibility Area, per Government Code section 51178. Please inspect the map visually to determine if other zone recommendations exist in your parcel.

My homeowners policy renewed a few days ago. I admit to a Whew! moment when our renewal notice arrived: 14% increase over last year, undoubtedly due to big payouts from the fires. Earthquake insurance also went up 14%.

Including business, auto and homeowners, we've had a few substantial losses over the past 40 years, so we pay the premiums knowing the value of having coverage.

We've only ever filed one homeowner's claim. A $125K claim ($270K in today's dollars) after the 1994 earthquake. Without it, we'd have been sunk.

@officerripley, I'm so sorry your homeowner's insurance hasn't been renewed and hope you quickly find a replacement policy.
