Homicides Increasing?

Yep I am one of those people who spent a couple of decades carrying a sidearm on duty as a Canadian Forces Military Police officer. Of course I am in favor of no one being armed, and in Canada we are almost at that point in 2023. Looking at the circus in your country, about guns, I am glad to be living here. Have I made my self clear ? JImB.
We're also glad you're living there.

There’s a long history to why we carry guns. You should take the time to read how we got to where we are.

The case hasn’t yet been litigated, but my attorney told me yesterday that the reason the gun is not being released is because the guy I shot may decide to attempt to sue me.
I understand now why it hasn't been released yet. Wish you the best.

WOW. Talk about having your head buried in the sand. Americans kill each other by the thousands every year. Go back to sleep. JImB.
Per Canadian 150.statcan.gc.ca website - Historically, shooting and stabbing have been the most common methods used to commit homicide in Canada. However, in the past five years shooting has become more common, accounting for 37% to 41% of all homicides where the method used to commit the homicide was known.

Per pewresearch.org - The U.S. murder rate in 2020 (all causes) was 42% lower than the suicide rate and 71% below the mortality rate for drug overdose. Murders in the U.S. has been steadily dropping since 2020.
(This article said 2020 was a peak year for murders in the US.)

I think this explanation is almost good enough, although I'm not sure crazy is the right word. I would call it emotionally disturbed. And our leadership is being drawn more and more from a pool of the emotionally disturbed. Homicides would logically increase in proportion to the depth of hatred we have for each other. I don't think most Americans like this, but it works in favor of the politicians who fan the flames. Hatred and resentment are an emotional sickness that can be taught and therefore learned. So are bigotry and intolerance. It was worse way in the past, but it is now the worst that I have seen in my life time.
Bigotry and intolerance was mostly about race and religion in the past. Though racial tension still exists, over the past couple decades intolerance has become mostly political and ideological.

I won't be surprised if we all learn some day that food and environmental pollution were the cause of a mental illnesses epidemic over the past century and a half. If I live long enough, that is.

That type of intolerance was at the forefront of my mind when I wrote that. We have been taught to extend our habits and perceptions that were once mostly reserved racism to now play an integral part in different opinions and personal politics. It was there before, but much more now.

Don’t shoot anyone. You may not get your gun back. I shot a guy months ago and I wore out my welcome at city hall. I’m not even allowed inside anymore. They finally sent me a registered letter a few weeks ago telling me that I wore out my welcome, more or less and if I get caught inside without being invited, they will arrest me for trespassing. I told them to give me my gun back, but no answer.
I question the veracity of the statement that you received such a letter, that is contrary to settled law. However, assuming you did, contact the City Law director or the ACLU.
