It no longer matters to me. I haven't touched a hot dog since I was a teenager.

what else should it be?Yep, nothing more than thick bread, folded.
A bun, to me, is readily identifiable as such, by its crust that covers a majority of its outer surface. Folded bread lacks that wide crusted surface. Everyone has their own take on what a bun is. Cool.what else should it be?
I believe you mean "poppy seed buns." Born and raised in Chicago, drove a cab for four years, stopped at scores of hot dog stands. Never heard of a pepper seed bun.Chicago is famous for pepper seed buns. Why do hot dogs bought outside the home taste better than dogs made at home? I butter my buns then lay them on a hot skillet to brown them golden brown. Hot dog trucks have sadly fallen by the wayside. We used to have one called "Wee Willie's Weenie Wagon".
There's a little place in Bridgton, Maine, about 40 miles from the coast, and they have fresh lobster rolls similar to your pic using the top cut buns. We stop there once in awhile and they are delicious. The New England style buns are the ones used for lobster rolls!
I buy Nathan's hot dogs maybe once a year.

Yes, I saw them online at Aldi's but was hesitant to get them-didn't know if they'd be good. Thanks for the heads up-will try.I tried these vegan Frankenfurters from Aldi and they were pretty good.
The texture is spot on but they have a smoky taste that is a little different from most conventional hot dogs.

Comparatively speaking. Maybe call it the baked part. Top and bottom. For want of a better word.Crusty?..in this country Hot dog buns are soft... no crusty part..
Not if you're born and raised in New England !!Cutting the top instead of the side is a sacrilege.
My son moved to New England. He wouldn't cut the top on a bet.Not if you're born and raised in New England !!![]()
That's because he only moved here.My son moved to New England. He wouldn't cut the top on a bet.
