Hour long appointment!

For the first visit with a specialist she talked with me for a whole hour and it was not urgent or anything serious. All for 40. Dollars. We are always saying how docs say nothing well Here is an exception. I will see her again after lab work is done. I just wish I had recorded it. End result. Drink more water.
 

It’s not the cost that flabbergasts me, it’s the hour. Impressive!
 

My mom once had a doctor that kept looking at his watch during the consultation. She finally asked him about it and he said it was because he allowed 2 minutes per patient. He had a large practice and was usually over-booked. Often there was SRO in the lobby. What a shame to make sick people have to stand for up a long time to see the doctor! It was usually 1.5 to 2 hour wait there and another 1 to 1.5 hour wait in the exam room. My mom said once she heard him talking about a fishing trip with a drug salesman. To take time away from a patient to BS with a sales agent is scandalous. Doctors should set aside time to talk to these people outside of office hours or have an assistant perform that duty. One time I went by myself to see him and waitehd 2 hours when a nurse came out in the lobby and said the doctor had left for the day and anyone that wanted to re-schedule to come to the window.

You got to see a doctor? I go to the clinic every three months, but I haven't seen the doctor who practices there in years. My husband got to see the doctor every time he went. He's dead now. His surgeon killed him.
 
We have both nurse practitioners and physician's assistants in NJ, but I see only a doctor. At 2:30 today, I have a virtual appointment with my Pulmonologist and he will spend some time with me explaining my cat scan. Since I am a nurse, I already read the results on My Chart, but I will give him the courtesy of going over it with me and what the next step will be for the one node especially on my left lung. I am sure it will be a Pet Scan since they are only guessing cancer right now. I doubt a biopsy is called for when the Pet will definitely tell us one way or the other.

the national health system NHS here in the uk... is where we see our primary general practitioners GP's, and or consultants.
nurse practitioners at GP surgeries (offices) carry out a more minor role.. for example, smear tests, COPD tests.. etc...

We don’t have many here yet. Those friends who‘ve dealt with Nurse Practitioners have been really impressed. They’re willing/allowed more time and they tended to be more empathic.

I agree about NPs, PAs and FNPs tend to be more empathic. And they listen.
