House buying woes.....

I think I'm in Florida, but I'm not sure any more.
We are in the process of buying a house to move into. The closing was supposed to be in nine days. Everything was going smoothly. Then......today, everything is falling apart. Arrrgggghhhhh……. Much hoo-haw going on between us, the seller, the mortgage company, the appraisers, and so on..... I've been trying hard not to get my hopes up and to not get too excited, but up to this afternoon, it looked like clear sailing.

I've been packing up for the last two weeks. My house looks like a hoarder's warehouse, except neater...with boxes from the liquor store...LOL.

We also have to get our present house "spiffied up" to put on the market as soon as we move out. So, I've been doing what I can do what with the furniture still in the house, like painting the inside of pantries and closets, putting down new shelf paper, and the like.

We really wanted this house; the market is tight around here for the kind of house, the price (pretty darn low, which is all we can afford) and the location we wanted AND the amount of mortgage they'll give old farts (we'll "recast" the loan with the money we make off of selling our present house, which is mortgage free and thus seriously lower the mortgage payment on the new house but for a while, we'll be at the maximum mortgage we can get). We looked at some others, but they had aspects that it would have been hard to live with. This one wasn't perfect, but it was pretty darn close and it was in 100% move-in condition. The mere idea of major redecorating (like scraping ugly wallpaper off every.damn.room.in.the.house and replacing all the carpeting and kitchen/bath reno and ………..) made me want to throw myself in front of the first Amazon truck that comes down the street. Yeah, that bad.

So, keep fingers crossed for us. I have a feeling that it's going to be a few nerve-shredding days ahead.
 

Moving into a new house is one of the most stressful actions most people take. The hassles involved can seem to drag on for weeks, or longer....especially if you have lots of personal items, furniture, etc., to move. I dread the day when we have to give up this place, and move to an apartment, etc., when/if our age and health begins to make such a move necessary. Good luck and take Lots of Deep Breaths.
 
As you get close to closing, sometimes things do get hectic. It’s kind of like the stars aren’t lining up with the planets. However, if you have a good realtor, he should be on top of things and getting done what needs to be done. Everyone wants to get paid at closing, so they all will generally make it work.

Just hang in there and keep the faith.

As for tidying up to sell your place, we hired a company to come in and stage our home. Wham! All done.

Falcon is absolutely right. Your home should be your biggest financial investment. Be very careful. Cross all t’s and dot all the i’s

Be very careful at the closing. I had a very dishonest seller try and float a balloon payment onto the closing documents. My dopey real estate agent basically was asleep at the switch. If I hadn't caught the sneaky attempt, I would've been looking at a $10K payment due, in full, after the first year. As it stood, I went on to sue that sneaky seller, once I found things he had hidden from me during the inspection. I also sued the inspector, who was hiding out in another town. The joke was on them, as my settlement basically gave me only a few years of payments before I owned the house, outright. I still own it, thirty-eight years later. It's one of my best rental units, now, because of the work I put into it, when I lived there. There are more stories that go with buying my other properties, but the preceding is a cautionary tale of an attempted sneaky move during a real estate closing. Be careful at yours. Make sure you understand exactly what you're signing.
 
Oh Jujube, I hope this all works out for you soon. I know it's hard to find just the right house sometimes and then when you do you want it to work out. Especially with you living in a house full of boxes. Well, if they are from the liquor store they have to be cheerful boxes at lest. :playful: We would like to sell out and move into town but I don't know when we are going to do it. There are a lot of pros and cons.

I think, just maybe, you may have alluded to that. :lol:

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this crap. It's been a long, long time since I've had to deal with anything like that. But I've experienced it second hand via clients, though not the legal aspects, just boxing and storing and packing and such, and trying to decide what to store and what to take, and getting the house ready to sell, or for a stager to come in and having to work with that person to have a better idea of what to bring vs what to leave behind for the staging.

It's stressful and nerve wracking and NO FUN, even when it's completely smooth sailing! Hang in there. :love_heart:
 
the more haggle that goes on is more monies for the solicitors. come agents ====i know i have been there '
tell them you are not happy with what is going on and you will pull out if not settled in a day or 2 ..
all just bluff really but it does wrk ….
