A computer software maker said people can get your house deed off the internet and someone can forge your name and sell your house without you knowing it?
The "deed" is just a piece of paper. I 'm not an attorney, I imagine one could go to the court house, get the appropriate records, fake a bill of sale and sell your property. I dunno But the fact that this crime is so rare, I'm not sure it's that easy. .Since everything is forged,, it's never going to hold up, legally.
Selling to a stranger is not as big a fear as a caregiver or family member transferring the deed then placing a mortgage or line of credit on the property and pocketing the cash. If they make the monthly payments it could go undetected for years.
I agree with FB that it's easy enough to do and would create a huge mess but it would eventually be figured out and corrected.
