Can anyone tell me how to get rid of stains around the rim of the mug I use for my Cuppa Soups? I tried dish washers, dish detergent, heavy scrubbing, but the darn stain stubbornly remains. Would it be safe to use a cleanser!

Is it a ceramic mug? Maybe try a little Ajax or Comet cleanser.
Nope, an ordinary run of the mill cup! I could easily replace it but am too stubborn to do so! :) Could I use Ajax or Comet on that? I haven't got a clue when it comes to cleansers. I do okay when it comes to cooking, though!

Just curious, if it's not a ceramic cup(glazed kiln-fired clay) then what's it made of? Glass, metal or?
I confess my ignorance, Nathan! I am starting to believe it might be ceramic, since you rightly state that all cups are. Maybe it's the way it was fired (the glace) because I just got finished with a cuppa and it left a gritty residue in the cup! It doesn't happen with my "coffe mug!"

I soak my mugs in bleach, water and detergent when they get stained. You might have to soak your cup in a pot where the solution would cover the rim of your cup. I've never had that method fail and my mugs (which I believe are ceramic) are not damaged.

For coffee I use a glass double wall insulating mug. Keeps the coffee hot and glass doesn‘t stain. Only downside is they may have a tendency to break in a dishwasher, but for coffee a quick rinse is all they need.

If coffee stains won't come out, neither will the Comet.

The acids in the coffee literally ate teeny tiny pits into your cup's glaze. Soaking it in bleach will bleach the stain, but anything you use will stay behind in those tiny pits.
