How’s Your Vision?

Ophthalmologist informed me several years ago that I had age-related macular degeneration. Been taking PreserVision AREDS 2 + multi vitamin daily ever since. No progression to date.

Funny thing is I stare at a dot in the center of a chart composed of straight vertical and horizonal lines everyday, called a Amsler Grid, using one eye at a time looking for curved lines.

If I used your chart I would be on my way to the Dr.

Try placing a straight edge or ruler to them.
That which we see, can’t always be believed.
I am well aware, it is our brain that tells us what to see and it can be wrong. With this thing i think its the mottled background that the brain sees or makes curved lines from. It reminds oc color blindness tests in which there similarly mottled effect with various colors and if you're color blind you can not see the numbers made up by some of the spots because they blend in with others.

I'm one of those people for whom most optical illusions (or Brain fails as Neil DeGrasse Tyson calls them) will not stay in a single mode, they switch back and forth repeatedly as i look at them.

I like the way you think, I think! 🤗

The curved line? There are multiple curved lines in that image. I looked at it for.a fraction of section before i could see them in most every square and as i shifted focus from part of the grid to another they seemed to actually be moving around.
Good description.

How's my vision? All those curved lines apparent in the grid image are what my left eye see's all the time. Right eye too but not quite as bad. My retina has had thousands of pinpoint laser zaps because of retinopathy. So, the grid just looks normal to me.
