How can people, or are they called monsters, who do this...

Oh dear Mike!
I’m sorry to read about Duke.
I really don’t t know what to say.
Why do you automatically think somebody poisoned him? I tend to agree with Imogene. Hair loss isn’t something that happens immediately. Is Duke an outdoors only dog?
I’m sending loving vibes his way. I hope he feels better really soon. It’s a good sign that he ate his food. I send loving vibes your way also. You seem very stressed . Of course you would be. 😟

I don't understand how anybody can do this to animals... Duke, our new rescue, was extremely healthy a week ago. We were out for our usual morning walk, and when I saw him, he had already swallowed something that looked like a pancake. He is going bald in areas, and his appetite is gone. His gums are not the vibrant pink colour they were a week ago... His energy level is nil...We have an appointment with our vet at 2:30 today, but it sounds like he was poisoned... If he is suffering as much as he is right now, he won't be coming home with us... I will not let him suffer in any way or form...

I just don't understand why anybody would do this on a quiet country road... Just as why would people put things in candies or apples during Halloween... If someone is that &^$%ing unhappy, or sick in their minds... do yourself in... Why do a harmless animal or kids in... WHY????

Depending on what happens at the vets this afternoon... I will post the outcome...

Makes me so angry...
So very sorry, Mike, sending prayers your way. 🙏

Something similar happened to one of our dogs. He wouldn't eat, lost a lot of weight, got to the point where he had to be picked up and taken out to do his business. The vet couldn't find out what was wrong. We think someone threw poison-laced food in our yard. Eventually, he started eating, and regained his strength.

He began going bald in his hind end about 5 hours after eating that pancake he found on the side of an ol dirt road, down the way from here... and then he began losing hair around his eyes... and his underarms...His elbows were a tad swollen yesterday, but he said that is probably because of his breed, and the way they stand...

He was doing a weeeee bit better today, but still quite tired as he has been in the last week...We watch out for him every second of the day... he ate his entire dinner as he did his breakfast this morning...but is sound a sleep on the couch now...

Again, I thank everyone for their caring, and kind words...

@mike4lorie

Sending love & big hugs for Duke. Good to hear he is eating.
🤗
Thank you, yes, he's eating, not looking for a lot of extras as he normally did, but yes, he is eating, and just wishes his nose was wet again... Hopefully tomorrow... But thank you for your kind words...
Thanks for the update. He’s sleeping on the coach, so clearly not an outdoor only dog.
I agree with you saying that eating his food is a good indication that hes doing well. I hope he makes a speedy recovery, for his sake and for yours. I’ll keep sending loving vibes your way.

Duke is a family member, and is never left outside, unless he chooses to be outside longer... Thank you for your kind words...

Hi Mike,
I didn’t think you kept any dogs outside that you owned especially since I remember you talking about your order dog. I think I got confused by some of the things you posted about in this thread. Like the pancake Duke found. 🤷‍♀️

Hey PP... I am not sure, but that is when he began to change, and why I thought Duke was poisoned... He had it inhaled before I could get my hand in his mouth to pull it out... but that is when he began all his horrible health probs... We were out on a walk when he found the pancake...

Thank you Everyone...

Duke is still with us, he was tested for some things, no poisoning...no Lyme disease.... Our vet has put him on some medication... and we'll see how he does...

Our vet can't figure out what is wrong with him... So what they did give us, we'll see if that helps my boy...

I will keep in touch about everything...

Part of me still thinks he was poisoned... but we will wait and see, and I told the vet, if I see no improvement, we will be back... But he did all of his breakfast the moment it was put down for him, which he has not done for the last little bit...

Thanks again, everyone...

And Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends here...
God Bless
I'm glad that Duke is still with you. It's heartbreaking when our animals are sick and they can't tell us what is wrong. I don't have any pets right now but I know what you're going through from past experience. I hope Duke pulls through this rough spell okay. It sounds promising. Also, I'm so glad you have a rescue dog. I wish more people would get rescues and help save a dogs (or cats) life.

It's been a few days since we went to the vets... Duke is doing better...almost back to himself, but still losing his fur in the strangest places...

We went for a long drive today, and he always sits so proudly up in the truck...But I know he's not 100 percent yet...The Lady at the coffee place tried to give him a donut hole, and he turned his nose up to it... He's not 100 percent yet, but is getting there...

Mike, I hope that this good outcome shall last. I know of several poisoned dogs in our former neighborhood. Some people even put razor blades into meat. In my opinion ALWAYS man is the worst animal of all.

People like that better hope I never catch them... when people mistreat children and animals, I lose it... I don't know if it's because they are mentally deranged, or have problems, and want others to suffer...but if I ever caught someone doing that... they would very much remember who I am before I called the cops on them...Makes me sick for the stuff individuals do to those who can not talk for themselves... and that includes people who bully or hurt seniors...

Well, it'll be a week tomorrow since we saw the vet for Duke. In some ways, he is doing better, but in other ways, he is not doing well...

They put him on 2 pills morning and night for his very soft stools... well, the last little bit, looks like green pudding... Still losing fur... Has quite a few bald spots now... and he's not chewing on himself... or scratching in those areas... When he barks, he begins to choke, and cough... and it's getting longer and longer coughing fits... He jumps up, and starts barking and then looks at me and wonders why he is barking...like if he woke up during a bad dream or something... It's almost like he has gone senile...

Going to call the vet tomorrow...
