"Russian diplomats have made opposition to NATO expansion central to their position in negotiations over how to avert a war. US diplomats have been just as rigid in arguing that Ukraine’s right to join NATO must be maintained.

Sanders pointed out in his remarks that the United States has long accepted the idea that superpowers are concerned with maintaining “spheres of influence” in their regions."

War was not averted & the aggressor is Russia. Had the Ukraine exercised it's right to join NATO I ask myself would Russia attack the Ukraine? Answer to myself. I doubt it.

Then I ask myself would any of the individual countries that make up NATO be bold enough to attack Russia? Answer to myself. I doubt it.

How could Russia maintain it's sphere of influence? By claiming NATO over reaches & is detrimental to it's interests. NATO at any time in the last 30 plus years could have combined to destroy Russia but didn't. War begun by Russia over suspected but not verifiable proof is contrary to achieving peace in Europe.

As for Berine Sanders. Why does Bernie Anders favor Russia & want to deny the Ukraine the right to join NATO?

Lets see, my post shows a post time of 10:04am and your new response 10:46am, a difference of 42 minutes you make an excuse as 2 hours. Expect you did read at least that first NBC link of the 5 links I posted and did not like what it had to say so ignored the rest. My interest is at least in these small public ways, is in preventing a nuclear WWIII all human beings would die from for the sake of what I see as pragmatically accepting for the near term far lesser evils.

Another recent article inside the various minds of those making USA policy decisions.

The New Doves on Ukraine, Could the U.S. prevent a war by giving up on NATO expansion?

Progressive liberal Bernie Sanders speaking out pragmatically what most in Congress are politically afraid to publicly state, that goes beyond a simple recitation of State Department talking points.

Bernie Sanders’s Smart Take on NATO, Ukraine, and Diplomatic Options

...Recognizing the role that NATO expansion plays in Russia’s thinking about the Ukraine conflict is not, Sanders argued, a sign of weakness. It is an understanding, Sanders explained, that could yet play a part in achieving “a realistic and mutually agreeable resolution—one that is acceptable to Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and our European allies—and that prevents what could be the worst European war in over 75 years.”

This post and most of your other links lead straight into discussing specific American politicians ...and American political rudeness is the reason politics are no longer allowed on this board.

Composing politically neutral posts with your views would take awhile longer than posting links referring to specific politicians and demanding others read them, but it would cut down on the no politics violations of this board.

We might to see the world as pockets of mineral resources that are essential to modern technology and our economic and military power.

Apart from natural gas, Ukraine abounds with minerals such as iron, coal, titanium, and other non-metallic raw materials. It's the leading nation when it comes to reserves of titanium, iron and non-metallic raw materials. https://www.businesstoday.in/latest...son-behind-russias-invasion-323894-2022-02-25
Iran and Iraq and the rest of the mid-east is about oil. Control of oil and the petrodollar are essential to our economy and military power. Just as control of Ukraine's resources can be very important to Russia.
