How Caring are You?

Not at all.

I do my best to help the family and friends in my circle, make a few token donations to local causes, and do my best not to need any help for myself.

I find myself becoming more cynical/skeptical and jaded as I get older. I attribute it to being constantly bombarded by stories of people who seem to lack any feelings of personal responsibility, scams, and attacks on the world that I grew up in.

I'm definitely ready to pass the torch and say a prayer that it isn't extinguished while in the hands of the next generation.

With regard to the OP's question, I don't know if people here consider my volunteer work as being kind or something else. I do try to help folks where I can. During non-COVID times, as a volunteer I taught English as a second language along with math and computer skills to immigrant folks through the local library system. Hopefully, when/if we get past COVID-19, I hope to do that again.

I also keep folks in our condo association's computers running, again as a volunteer and also serve a number of functions for the association such as being on the board most of the time I have lived here, managing the key FOBs and garage door openers and the controlling computer system, the security camera system, etc. We have 72 units, so that is a task that often requires me to help folks who have lost their FOBs and/or garage door openers, replace those that have broken, arrange to replenish the supply through our management company, etc.

When somebody in our association is sick or otherwise incapacitated, I run errands such as picking up medicines for them, taking them to the doctor, and such.

As far as I am concerned, I prefer believe any decent person would do these things, or at least hope they would. We don't have to live in a condo association to do this since we all have neighbors unless we live way out in the country and off the grid.

I see that one person considered my earlier post of Harry Potter, "sad". It was simply a light-hearted post, nothing more. Judge me as you will. We don't really know each other, so I suppose I can't expect everybody to take posts as they were intended. Thankfully, others did see the humor in it.

I was kind of joking...I try to help when I can. It's not always possible, though.
I think we are both receiving disapproval from one person who doesn't understand that we have a sense of humor around here. I have the impression from other posts of yours that you are a caring person.

Sometimes I’m careful and sometimes I’m careless but never am I caring. I don’t know just thought it up, would you term my statement as caring or careless? How about calculated or just plain nonsense? Either way I got your attention, would you CARE to join me in a senior toast to celebrate years of accumulative wisdom, good health and prosperity?

I once cared a lot and had much empathy;
Then I traveled in the real world and found that many will try to use it against you; while others are just people... (developed some healthy callouses/ness)
I try to give more than I get, and help within reason (no cash donations/handouts except to the red kettle at Christmas).

Family first, Friends second (facebook "friends" are not/do not qualify), Neighbors third.. People in dire circumstances (i.e. lost in the woods/snow/mountains) often qualify.

"Give a man a fish and he will eat today".
"...teach a man to fish and he will eat forever..."

Enjoy!

I'm caring, but times have changed as compared to yesteryear.

Today, one has to carefully weigh-over the situation before involving themselves.
