How casual can one get at a wedding?

One of my FB friends posted this photo of her daughter's wedding. It struck me at how casually dressed the groom was. No coat, kahki slacks, suspenders, work brogans for shoes and hands in pockets??? To me it's like he's saying, " I don't care." Mayhaps I'm from the old school.

I'd thought of that possibility, as well.
Or lifelong habit of his.
Or perhaps he's shy, or felt self-conscious in front of people, and he may have preferred something even smaller, but is doing this sort of ceremony, for her out of love, because it's what she wanted.

Before I clicked on it,
I thought this thread topic, referred to what one could or should, wear as a guest to a wedding.
That would be a different question. How casual could a guest be, if you didn't own the fanciest, or were only comfortable in something due to medical issues/needs?

At every wedding I've gone to as a guest, if it wasn't specified as formal and it was held in a church or synagogue, I'd wear what I would normally wear to church or synagogue.

If you're a wedding guest and you have medical issues, you should wear what's comfortable. If some people don't like it, maybe you'd get fewer wedding invitations. But that could be a good thing.

I believe in marriage, but I can't stand elaborate weddings. IMO they're a waste of money that could often be better spent.
In Scotland, 'Humanist' wedding ceremonies apparently outnumber all other types of ceremony put together.

I think that's the Page boy holding the Bridal Train ..and if the ceremony hasn't started yet .. ie, no jacket on the Groom..I would wonder why he was wearing a flower in his Braces...

I've seen wedding pictures here in the paper of guys in jeans & flannel shirts. Women in skinny jeans or short shorts. with tank tops. Some put me in mind of "Elly May" on Beverly hillbilliys.

My brother had a very formal wedding. And I had a good friend get married in a park. To be honest, nobody, except my sister-in-law loved the super formality of her very proper wedding. My good friend was surrounded by his friends in a relaxed atmosphere. The idea of a marriage is to announce that two are now one, and to be surrounded by loved ones at that time. The rest is just trappings.
