How Did You Find This Forum?

I was on a couple of forums. On one I found the Moderation to be too far right...on the other, too far left.

On the former I kept butting heads with the Mods. On the latter I kept getting suspended for my sense of humour. I decided to stop drinking their Kool-Aid and search for another discussion board.

Perhaps this site will be a better fit for me. I'm pushing 60 in a few years, and I think most of you 'get' my references and jokes so far. It's quite refreshing to be honest.

Well I hope you enjoy it here....

I can't remember how I found this forum TBH with you.. it was a very long time ago...:D..but I had been a mod on another forum which closed down.. and I;d been a member of 2 very large British forums, where the moderation is awful... I found those huge forums to be full of cliques and anger tbh.. I wanted something with a small town feel, but not so small there would be hardly any posters, as some are.. . and to be more friendly.. and I found this one.. which fitted the bill

I was sick of fakebook and the censorship there. So I searched for a nonpolitical forum. For the most part this one is as long as I never even scroll the ones that sound political. I want to have fun here and enjoy it. Not get mad at what others say or think. Everyone has their own opinions and nobody is going to change them.

I love the diary section, as most of you know! I love the age limit too. I belong to a few other forums but about other subjects.........rabbits for one.

On my old forum, someone posted a thread topic, "Has Anyone Ever Thought You were Gay?"

So everyone started chiming in and I wrote...

"I'm not gay, but I think this is a FABULOUS thread!! Toodles for now!!"

I got suspended for 4 days, and the Moderator accused me of using my white privilege to bash minorities!

My test has always been, Is the joke funnier than it is mean? If I feel so, then I'll post it.

It was just a harmless joke. I'm all for diversity...I just thought it was funny. That's just one example which had me questioning myself about further participation on that forum.

So I did a general forum search and ended up here. I thought I'd kick the tires on a different forum.

That is not a funny in the world today. I love a good funny but we must always consider if it would hurt anyone. If it is truly funny, it does not hurt anyone.

@Blessed

I agree with you somewhat. I cross the line sometimes. But being accused of using my white privilege to bash minorities?? That's a bit of a stretch and doesn't even make sense!

I'm a child of the 70's...Carson, Pryor, Andy Coughman, Rickles...it's been a difficult adjustment for me in this new era where everyone seems to get so easily offended by something.

But I have toned down my shtick to a degree...realizing I could be hurting other's feelings.

you do have to be careful on forums because there's no way for people to catch the nuance or the tone of voice.. so using emoticons help.. and if you do offend people without realising it. a quick apology will often be enough to calm waters..

I agree.. ''using white privilage to bash minorities''.. is an absolute stretch, and clear invention in the mind of people that I was bemoaning about just the other day on here..The woke, and snowflakes, who change the narrative to take offence at everything..

This site was recommended to me by another active member. My previous “go-to” seniors site lost a lot of vitality when they tended towards featuring gripping topics with typical titles such as, “What’s in your refrigerator?😴

I enjoy intellectual playfulness but not the inflammatory remarks or ponderous vulgarity that still other sites seem to trade in…

At least you give everyone warning to buckle up.

HollyDolly, you are so right about misinterpreting online.

For me i'd need more context on what kind of thread, and if that person posed the question to Beezer or someone else, which is not to say i would not have chuckled mildly as first response. Depending on context, i could have perceived it more as a jab at homophobes.

I've had gay friends (in 3D world and online) that were open but not generally flamboyant, who might have given a response such as Beezer's to that question being asked.

The best humor, IMO, throws a spotlight on human behavior, holds a mirror up to society and odds are someone might take issue with their reflection, that's the point. Odds are not everybody in LGBTQ+ community would agree whether the joke in question here was funny. While i consider myself an ally for those in any marginalized group, i try not to be a SJW and decide for others if an attempt at humor is funny.

I did a search for seniors forums .. joined 3 .. quit 2 .. and stayed here.
One forum was too controlled by the mods. The other was pleasant, but it recently closed due to lack of participation.
I hope the reason for lack of participation isn't what I'm thinking. How old were the seniors at that forum???

(This may be a good example of that "iffy" humor that was mentioned!)

To answer your question @Beezer: One of my longest known and dearest cyberfriends, @OneEyedDiva, had been recommending SF to me for months, and i finally checked it out. At first i was a bit concerned about the 'No politics' rule because politics effect most every aspect of our lives. But gave it a go, and i enjoy it.

I'm still on FB because i have family and longtime friends there. But we find plenty of things to have lively discussions about here.
