How do families cope?

As the news unfolds about the man beaten & kicked to death I started thinking about the families that are related to the ones charged with that crime.
How do the parents cope seeing their son beat & kick a man to death?
How do mothers explain to their young ones?
How do teens deal with their peers when they can see what took place via video?

The crime they committed goes deeper. I can't begin to imagine what the mothers, fathers, wives & children, think or how they will deal with their friends.
 
As freedoms are being chipped away day by day, untold violence is erupting as a result. That's how I would explain it. I was just talking about this with someone this morning.

I imagine some fathers and mothers are just angry they got caught on video. Some may feel ashamed about the beating/killing.....and should be. I guess the children who are shocked by what happened have the toughest time dealing with their peers in school and in their neighborhood. Sad for many family members, but not as sad as the mother and father who had to bury their son for no good reason in the United States of America. :(

Yes, Tyre Nichols' freedoms were completely removed when his life ended by cops beating him to death. The violence should not be acted out by the cops in the USA. Sad pathetic time in our country.

I don't think about them at all. I think about the family of the man beaten and kicked to death. The others' sons will live, although most likely in jail. Maybe they need some introspection about how they raised someone that would see fit to kill another person. The parents of Tyre Nichols will never have their son back.

I tend to think that in many instances it is more like "The Talk" with black mothers. From what I've seen, Black mothers seem to be the strongest parents in any society. As a White man, I can't even imagine what is must be like to have this talk with your son and know that he may be a target for police officers for no good reason. It it truly sad.
 
I read a post on this forum from a cop that said one of the worse parts of his job was telling parents that their child was killed in an auto or other type of incident. I don’t know if I could do that. I put myself in the parents position and think how devastating that must be. It’s the worse news that as a parent you could ever receive. For the cop, he has to be in some kind of pain himself. I don’t know how any of them cope.
 
The American Constitution is a redo. What we had before wasn't working. We were probably the first nation to have a government, which was 'thought out', before being put into action. Throughout that document, various officers were created. And in every case, the very next sentence is how to get rid of the SOB. Our founding fathers had no illusions about the range of human activity. They can be saints, virtuous, honest, murderers, cheats, and thieves. Families have to live with the sins of those they love.

The cops who actually kill the child purposely, aren't burdened with that task.
 
Tyre did exactly what he was told, despite being dragged out of his car and tased & screamed at for no reason. @Wayne

Getting to know you, I see you are wishing, looking, hoping to blame the victim; crying for his mother who lived nearby.

As for blood work, I'm sure you're hoping he had drugs in his system. Since he was on his way to work after dinner at his mom, I'm sure, so sorry to report to you, that your hopes are misguided.

Some people will blame the victim and make excuses for the killer, especially when cops murder for no good reason.......sad. Tyre did his best to follow their chaotic and senseless orders, but his fate was already decided by them.

Done as told? How could he have done as he was told after being dragged out of the car then loudly ordered to put his hands behind your back...while those cops were barking that order to Tyre, one held onto his left arm and another cop stepped on his right wrist. It would have been impossible to comply with that barking order.

Blood work on whom? The cops I hope you were referring to because they were sure jacked up!

Thanks for your honest post. I was thinking the same thing, blood work on all of the cops involved should have been done, they were pumped up to pulverize that young man and likely were under the influence of some substance. But chances are they'll get a pass on such testing.

Are you referring to when Tyre ran? I'm assuming so. I thought that was later in the entire ordeal than it apparently was according to this timeline I found in the NY Times. It's behind a paywall but I'm pasting the link for those of you who have a subscription. Also, they gave me one free story and that's how I got the link.

According to the timeline he ran almost at the beginning of the encounter. I thought it was later but I only watched it once and do not want to see it again.

The timeline gives the time of the stop as 8:24 and Tyre running at 8:25. Did running anger the cops and therefore have an effect on what happened? It certainly is not an excuse of any kind for beating someone to death but irrational things happen when people with hair trigger tempers get set off.

One of the things that fathers or mothers tell their kids about dealing with cops is to do as told and whatever happens do not run.

It's just one more detail that undoubtedly will come up in the trial and therefore it's of interest, at least to me.
 
I don't know. I would hope they would have others to help them. Perhaps community meeting, counseling, talking with others who understand.

Because I was raised by a mentally ill nut who had some severe trauma, I hope it doesn't get abused into their kids like it was to me. People have to deal with some real s**t. Not all of it makes the media.

I also heard on the radio that they are really lowering the standard for police officers because people don't want to get into the job. That is disturbing. Someone who enjoys this kind of control over others are not who should be doing the job.

Pepper, do you know the time line on this tragedy because I'm not sure I do. I know he was pulled over for 'reckless driving' whatever it was. He could have been going too fast or weaving lanes which I have noted people to do. But didn't he run from his car area BECAUSE he was being beaten and then they caught up to him and beat him further? Essentially killing him right there. If that's the case, he had every right to run. Who get ef gets beat up at a traffic stop.

And what about the EMT? That gets to me, couldn't they see this was not just pepper spray. A pepper spray person would be sitting up and talking and once under control their eyes should be rinsed. This was not a pepper spray incident. A lay person on the street could have seen that. :mad:

During his sentencing hearing, Derek Chauvin's pathetic mother spoke on her son's behalf, asking for a light sentence.
She spoke about "All the wonderful things he did & how proud she was of her son."
Amazing - she didn't seen to realize what a fool she made of herself.
