How do I block a scammer for good?

I have just received my first scam mail from someone claiming to know me. He has suggested he has been watching me and knows all my bank details, email addresses and all Facebook accounts. He then went on to say he knows all the Porn sites I am watching, (I've never watched one) and will let my friends know what I'm up to. Then he went on to say I must forward $1649.00 into an account. I know it's a scam but how did he get my email address, most of it was correct except for one or two details. Of course, I've reported it but what do I do if I receive another email from this lowlife? Has anyone else had to deal with this. It's a big worry.

Email addresses and all kinds of other information is available for sale on the dark web, sick as it is. I've not had to deal with it, but I'm sure reporting it, as you have, would be a good first step. Probably would be a good idea to change your passwords on your social media accounts. If you get another, be sure to not respond. It tells them that someone is actually at the address they used. I think I'd keep the mails, though, in case someone needs to see them for a trace or something.

Edit: Oops, just realized I didn't answer your question... I have no idea how to permanently block someone... or if that can even be done. May depend on the mail place you're using... maybe some do that.

Over the past several years, I have received the same similar scamming emails, saying
almost 'exact' to what you got. First time I opened that email, put me off, kind of unnerving.
I just block when things like that happen. I get all kinds of scamming nonsense
and mostly with my Hotmail accounts. *Of course do not ever reply to an email like that, not
ever.

You might continue to receive another or other emails from lowlifes like this, just always
do the same thing, block, then route the email to your spam folder if you
choose.

I change my password but that does not always stop it either.

Good luck...

They go away.

Don't panic, it's a bluff... if you want to change all your passwords on accounts that's up to you. However, if the person did compromise one of your accounts, your goose would have already been cooked before you ever found out about it.

Don't engage, don't reply. Keep a copy of the email for reference, but block/label as spam the original.

I block and delete any of these spam. Many end up in the Junk folder automatically. Then I have to go through and remove valid things.

Outlook and other mail providers could help by making it possible to go to Junk Mail, then Block and Delete all the garbage in one fell swoop after the real mail is put back in your Inbox.

Had the same email, this time last year, but ignored it, my bank account was cleaned out of $36.000, and many other things too, including Car Registration. Driving Licence, Car Insurance, and About Six New bank Accounts set up, all in different names. too many other things to go into but still have all the documentation of the nightmare. Forensic Police worked on it for two months and they still don`t know how it happened. Eventually got the money back from the bank (2 months) later. All our friends were great lending us money (Cash) to tie us over, any advice from me, do not have ANYTHING personal details on your PC and if have a strange transaction on your bank Cards, Block the cards straight away!

Lowlife like others have said. We still get phone calls trying to scam us, hubby and I. We just tell them to f...off. We don't have any info on social media. Also we don't do online banking. But I hover over details in an email address and if I don't recognize the sender, I delete it.

Thanks everyone for your advice. When I tried to block another person it comes up on my computer that they will be deleted in 10 days time giving them the option to send another email. A friend of mine who has the same name as the offender gave me another email address different to the one they use.

As a follow-up to my original post. After receiving the first email (the next day) I got a message on my phone to phone the bank with a phone number, no details just to phone them. I thought it was part of the first scam email; I just deleted it MISTAKE, because when our cards were refused at shopping, went to the bank and they could see the money had been going out and would have stopped it!.
So I ask how was I to know the phone contact was legitimate, truly I give up. Footnote NO more online banking for me EVER!
Forensic police told me later the scammer somehow had stolen my identity, and all that was done was in reality ME doing it!
