How do I change notifications from here

Today at the bottom of every page ,when I first sign in a message says allow notifications. I hit no and it then the next time I sign in it asks the same thing. Today I accidently accepted the notifications. Is there any way I can change that and not receive notifications.?
 

Go to your profile at top right corner, click on "preferences", then choose your notification options.

I like getting notifications if someone mentions my avatar or sent me a conversation. What I do not understand is what is the ''push notifications", hope someone explains.
