How do I remove pop-ups?

DO NOT click on or try to perform any operations associated with clicking on the pop-ups. If you did so, they likely would prompt you to install their nefarious software (more malware).

And I THINK it is malware of some sort that generates the fake pop-ups. I have offered a link that steps through a manual process to try and eliminate some baddies but I would contact Trend Micro and/or their supported user forum for suggestions too. At the end of the day, you may have to resort to having your computer guy take a look.

@Crystal , If your computer guy could hook you up with some kind of Linux install, that old Toshiba will be lovin' life! Linux nowadays is very user friendly, I would say even more so than Windows. I'm not tryin' to make a sale here, just sayin' that the old Toshiba would certainly be more nimble and spry, not to mention that Microsoft discontinued support for Windows 8.1 completely back on January 10, 2023.
 

I have a pop-up blocker on my computers that I got when I worked at the Pentagon and it’s still active. I retired from them a few years back, but they have kept up the subscription, so maybe they have a few or several thousand they buy and everyone gets a copy to install. It came on a flash drive with no name on it. So, I have no idea what company built it, but I get zero pop-ups, even now and then one will momentarily try to come up, but the blocker stops it and it goes away all within a second. It’s just a flash.

My M.S. Office is the same. It keeps renewing. I have no idea why they keep paying for a non employee, but I appreciate it. I just finished the new Excel tutorial they sent along in May. Not much has changed. A few more shortcuts and bells, but nothing I need.

@Nathan. Yes, I know there's no longer support, but aren't a lot of people still using Win7? I think there's a thread on that here somewhere. I'm just trying to stretch this out until I can buy a new laptop. My version of MS Edge is also no longer supported but I need Win 10 to upgrade.

Anyway, my patience has worn thin, I can't download an ad blocker because of all those pop-ups on the screen, so I'm going to turn it over to the computer guy and see what he thinks is best to do.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I'll let you know how the story ends.
