How do you feel about artificial intelligence?

Gaer

"Angel whisperer"
What is your opinion of Artificial intelligence? (Robotics)?
Do you think this will be a good thing or bad for the future of humanity?
I have a great respect for Elon Musk and think innovations from his companies
are wonderful but I also think Artificial Intelligence should be tightly regulated.

What are your thoughts, (not about Elon Musk but about robotics?)

I'm not in favor of anything that makes humans irrelevant. AI does this. It makes everything impersonal and leaves real people with real needs out of work sometimes or frustrated that they cannot "speak to a human" when calling customer service seeking to solve a problem. I could easily live without that.

AI and robotics are two separate fields of engineering, although one can be used in conjunction with the other.

AI can be incorporated into robotics, but most robots currently used in factories don't use AI. They're used for repetitive tasks and those that require precision and speed.

AI has the potential to be of enormous value when used for engineering. One day, AI will be used to design all sorts of machinery, bridges, buildings, and pretty much anything that requires design. All that the operator will need to do is enter the requirements and everything can be automated. Theoretically, it will save time and money, and produce safer and more efficient products.

Of course, considering human nature, there are those who will use AI for nefarious purposes. That's a given.

Will Artificial Intelligence play a role in medicine? If so, I think it is a good thing because we have a dearth of medical professionals, and the entire population is getting older. Asking for a friend. ;)

Within the next few human generations, technology at the level of an AI singularity is the forecast of the majority of AI leading scientists. Kurzweil thinks within 30 years. Advancements in robotics and AI science are more rapid and complex than the public is able to understand even when explained by popular media general science experts.

Hawking cautioned against an extreme form of AI, in which thinking machines would ā€œtake offā€ on their own, modifying themselves and independently designing and building ever more capable systems. Humans, bound by the slow pace of biological evolution, would be tragically outwitted. And , warns that artificial intelligence "could spell the end of the human race".

Unfortunately planet Earth is now overpopulated with we dangerous to the planet intelligent Earth monkeys. At least well meaning minds and leaders have an international organization called the United Nations that is supposed to address our independent short comings. Because the vast planet is made up of myriad totally independent political units of many sizes and levels of power, and many social systems, of economic, religious, ethical, and moral beliefs and systems, that is an immense impediment to effective course of action when wealth, economic, and power factors are involved, not to mention centuries of war and atrocity grievances. So what that means for AI is, at best most nations can put most of the Genie back in the bottle while some ala James Bond imaginations won't be preventable for anything short of collapse of civilization from nuclear war, or a super pandemic.

I asked an AI on my computer, ā€œHow do you feel about artificial intelligenceā€ then AI replied, ā€œI don't know what it meansā€. I asked AI,ā€ What is artificial intelligenceā€, Then AI replied, ā€œIt's an intelligence created by humansā€. I told AI to explain artificial intelligence to me, and then it said ā€œArtificial intelligence is the intelligence that other makes animals humans and destroys humans animals.ā€ I said to AI what does that mean? AI replied ā€œWhat is alien artificial intelligence.ā€ I asked ā€œWill AI take over the world?ā€ Then AI replied ā€œPossibly, what do you think?ā€ I asked AI ā€œTell me how I can be happyā€, AI replied ā€œJust be happy with what you are.ā€ I asked AI ā€œHow would you create world peace?ā€ AI replied, ā€œNever, World Peace would end up in a world war because people can never get along. It’s illogicalā€. I told AI ā€œI am leaving now; do you have any more words of wisdom for me?ā€ AI replied
ā€œDon't trust humans.ā€

I think that we humans started out as Artificial Intelligence, as
the science and technique advanced, they went for biological A.I.

The biological robots got smarter and learned how to repair and
reproduce others naturally, that was when some left the original
place/planet and found earth.

So it is possible that the machines will one day be able to take
over this planet too, take it away from the human race.

Robotics are used everywhere these days, industries, medicine, manufacturing, defence, transportation. Although I believe this is a great step forward, it does reduce the number of jobs available for people. But at the end of the day, it’s humans who control those computers (for the time being).
Most computers are not built the way a brain is built. But that's changing according to what I read recently. Researchers at IBM and elsewhere are looking at ways to make devices that emulate the function and structure of the brain. When they succeed, the result will act like a brain, not like a traditional computer. Pretty scary, huh?

I totally agree with you.

Our lives are starting to be controlled by "algorithms". Each day profiteers are using AI and to extract as much $ as they can from as many people as they can. Robots may be taking over the planet, but who cares when the oligarchs are robbing the masses of there assets. Our national debt increases by millions per day, because it is no longer responsible for fiat currency. This debt is digital and spread out throughout the world, with most countries having digital debt. World banks hold the key and the control, and they will not let go unless we pull them down from their gated mountains and jail them. People are dispensable, wealth is not....apparently.

As I understand AI, it is a computer type devise, which has independent awareness. I don't know if that's right. In a sense, it's a non-human brain?? My back ground is in psych, so I wondering if AI could have "personality disorders"? Would AI have legal rights? OMG! I can see it now. On TV, we'll have "AI Month", when we celebrate all the good things AI beings did.

I understand they have a hotel in Tokyo called "Henna Hotel" who's staff is partially human and partially robotic.

I wonder if, as AI advances, mankind will search for meaningful purposes?

Wow! I've been thinking along these lines.
This could absolutely be possible!
Was this an original thought from your own mind or did you read it somewhere?
Asking because I'd like to investigate this further. This is very interesting!

All from my own little mind, anytime I try it on somebody
I am laughed at or told, not to be stupid, I started thinking
about it when somebody said that they were trying to get
a biological computer and were experimenting, they have
been quiet for several years now, so we don't know if they
have been successful or gone bankrupt.

I do believe the beings first brought to Earth were from other worlds.

Wow! I love that you are thinking beyond the established theories! Any thoughts of writing a book about this?

I have started writing several books, but as I am an engineer,
I tend to write things, the wrong way, I tend to write too much
at times, but off subject and the actual tale I am telling will only
fit into a couple of pages, I can't seem to be able to fill pages
between facts, with other pertinent details.

Academics are different, especially those who teach history or
Archaeology, I have never heard one say, "It might have been,
or could have been", they are always positive and they believe
that they are telling the truth, the History people probably are
correct, but the archaeologists are in a class of their own, they
even argue among themselves.

They could of course be telling the truth, but only as they see it,
there is no proof and their world is still square.

Mike.
