How do you handle money?

How do you handle money? I'm not talking about bank accounts, stocks, etc, but the folding stuff. I knew a woman, who ironed them, so they'd look nice. I have to have them in my wallet from 1s, 5s,10s, then 20s. in a row My ex would put on a coat she hadn't worn in months, and find crumpled 20s- in the pockets; it was her "found money". That drove me up a tree. She had crumple bills all in her purse.
How do you handle your folding money?

I fold my bills in half and put them in my wallet with the largest (amount) in back and the smallest in front. I have found crumpled bills in coat pockets from times I paid with cash and was given change and didn't have time to neatly organize. Mostly I'm neat with paper money.

Our bills are polymer/plastic so don’t crumble. Since I’ve gone almost 100% the other plastic, aka a card, I usually only carry a $5 and $20 tucked away in zipped area. I won’t decline it, if given a $100. When I go to the Farmers Market, I carry lots of $5s and coins. Sometimes I end up with coins in my coat pocket.

Paper money usually just a few dollars are folded and put in my wallet. Use of a credit card covers the need for carrying cash.

Exactly the same as this ...

as Jules pointed out we have polymer notes ,so they don't crumble or fold.... however the one drawback of them is that they do tend to stick together, so it's very easy to pass over a £20 not realising that there's another one stuck to it..

Here in Toronto some of the retail stores now have signs on the door stating " NO CASH on premises " because they only accept debit or credit cards . I don't carry any cash with me. Its kind of hard for a thief to steal electronic transactions, right ? I recently bought a large collection of souvenier spoons in a custom made display case from a man whose Wife died. He wanted cash, so I went to a ATM and got the $50 to pay him. One $50 bill. Jimb.

I don't think it's hard for a thief to steal electronic transactions. They do it all the time and they're good at it.

OK, please explain to me how a thief is going to steal electronic transfer data from my local coffee shop's data terminal ? I will await your explanation with anticipation. Please feel free to go into the details, I am dying to learn about this. JimB.

I do carry cash, sometimes in order, and sometimes not, but I so rarely need it anymore that I expect moths to fly out of my wallet when I open it for any cash transaction. Mostly I like to have it in case I buy something on Marketplace, a garage sale, or Craigslist. Other than that, it's just hibernating in there.

Thieves install a skimmer on the card reader. They are very adept at doing this because they know where to plug it in and the thing just snaps or slides on.

I read a book in my early twenties written by a famous mentalist/magician Al Koran, he advised ‘get rid of any copper or coins and always ‘roll’ notes’, (paper) I’ve done it ever since

My copper and coins are used up quickly for my daily newspaper and any notes I have are ‘rolled’ over at least four fold, this is supposed to ensure a continuous roll of money

I am talking about hand held devices that stores and cafes use, not ATM's or gas station pumps. JimB.
We don't have many of the hand-held ones here. In fact, I haven't seen one of those for about a decade.

That said, those skimmers are usually only placed on ATM machines and gas station pumps that can facilitate your transaction.

Never allow someone in a cafe or anywhere to take your card to use on a hand held device. Alway have them bring the device to you, and only you hanle your car. It's a well known scam for them to have a second card device behind the counter, so when you hand over your card they skim the card in the fraudulent machine.. and garner all your bank details...

This has happened to thousands of people including my own husband who gave his card over ( years ago before tap & go).. at the Fuel station.. the card machine was below the counter , and unbeknown to all the customers they had a second machine and were cloning everyone's cards..

I never had much need of cash when I lived in the Dallas area, but since moving to a rural area I am needing it more. Some places won't even take a card and some will upcharge 3% if you use a card (my dentist). I will write a check there.

All the handyman type guys here only take cash. I am uncomfortable keeping much cash lying around so I usually try to keep around $100 and go to the bank in advance if I am having a large job done.

The cash I keep on hand is hidden and I tend to only carry around $20 with me.

I seldom carry cash.
I read a book by a financial writer Suze Orman............ always spoke of treating your money well in putting it away neatly and organized she felt if you respected your money you learn to handle it better in all aspects.

Yep and fronted and turned in proper alignment
In a money clip

Front left pocket
When at home, it, along with my keys and wallet, are in my nightstand, top drawer
on money clips... my ex didn't use one but always just folded his paper money in half an put in his pocket... which one? i don't remember. i do remember thinking it seemed tacky to pull out a wad of cash and start peeling off bills to pay. he always arranged his money... from ones to 20s. he put the higher bills on the outside... i suspect trying to impress anyone who saw him.

i rarely have much cash on me. i do arrange bills from smallest to largest, but don't care one bit which way they might face.

my Dad always told us to have a blank check in our wallet... just in case. the idea is pretty archaic in today's world, but i still have one in mine. last time i "needed" that check was in 2004 when car shopping... that was my down payment check.

I'm kind of picky about a wallet. I like a certain organization. I want to be able to open up a part to access cash. And cards are separate. My wallet has 3 slots. I keep the 20s in the back, the 10, 5, 1, in the next slot, in that order and the change in the front slot. I like to pay cash. I don't use my card much. I put the Costco glasses on my card yesterday and making copies only takes a card now. 🤷‍♀️
