How do you handle your cash?

I always found the US greenbacks very confusing. It was easy to put them in the wrong order in my wallet. Sometimes I wonder if I paid with a larger bill than I thought I was using.

I only carry enough of our polymer money for emergencies. I fold and tuck it neatly into a plastic container. I also carry two or three loonies and quarters.

That's the reason when I carried cash it was nothing larger than a $20 bill.

I keep a small lockbox in a "secret" place in my home. It is one of those cement lined ones. Keep important papers there and a stash of cash. Try not to carry a lot on me, to resist temptation to over spend.

I have to have the right kind of wallet. I have one that has 3 sections when opened from the top. Coins in front. 10, 5, 1 in order in the middle and 20's in the last slot. All bills face the same way also.

If I stuff change bills in the coin section, I'll fix it later.

have to have bills in descending order neatly in my wallet. I had a friend, who had to iron her bills. How do you handle your cash?
Yup
descending order
In a money clip
In my front pocket alongside my super slim wallet

I don't iron the bills, but I do straighten them and face them in proper alignment/direction
Makes it easy for easy counting

I feel naked without two or three hundred in that clip
Seldom $100s unless I'm enroute to make a somewhat large private purchase

Three grand of 100s fits nicely in a clip

I used to keep several hundred under my car floor mat. Have not done that with my most recent car…do not know why. Usually get a thousand or so in cash and spend it as needed over usually months. I am not a wild shopper…but am usually am working on some house somewhere and most hired help want cash.

Two local places I always use cash ...
Some places charge a small percentage if using even a debit card

1) A local estate sales store specializing in antiques charges 3% for debit or credit card use

2) Our city Water Department (water, sewer, garbage) charges 2.5% and $1.50 minimum if paying the monthly bill at the department office

The only other time I carry cash is if going out to a bar, which is rare these days
I'd rather pay cash as I go along, rather than running a tab

For everything else, I use a debit card ... except I use a credit card online and pay it off immediately
If there is any risk, I'd rather risk a credit card online rather than the debit card

Wad up cash? I can't envision ever crumpling it up. Or do you mean she had a whole wad of money?

If I expect to need cash to pay for something, I fold it before stuffing it in my back pocket, then if I haven't spent it, usually it comes out and sits around the house until the next time I expect to need it, or, sometimes, I find it in the washing machine.

I remember I once "found" my own money -- it was cash in an envelope in a suitcase (apparently I'd taken it on a trip in case of emergencies). It was so exciting to find it, because at the time I was unemployed (during the 2009 mess).
My ex would take bills, like change from a $20, and scrunch it up and put in her pocket. Then she'd forget about it, until she "found' it.
