How do you Interpret What You Read & Hear?

I am absolutely blown away by the way people interpret both the written and spoken word. I am getting a taste of that re: my recent posts. I suspect that we ALL tend to interpret what we read and hear based on our own particular core beliefs, religion. politics, personality. I am not saying that people are wrong in what they interpret. just different. We can listen to someone on a TV news broadcast and then sit back and listen to different folks interpretation of what was said. Many of us are pretty quick to make judgement of a person and what they say or write particularly if we know what that person looks like.

Of course it's our right...and it;s your right too..., and yes I agree, I think we all do interpret what we read and hear on our core beliefs most of the time..although there's always someone who will play devils ' advocate even if they believe the opposite view.

I think it's more difficult Lon , on an internet forum, because everything is black and white..there's no colour to the spoken word on here, and if people take offence to anything I say, and accuse me of being one way , then I have to dispute that if it's not the case..it's not what I'm saying it's how people are reading or interpreting what I've written...

Face to face might be a different matter when people can see the nuances and tone of voice..

I'm not clear what your reference to how someone looks making people particularly judgemental.. perhaps I've missed something

If you were talking to a male that had a swatiska tattooed on his forehead and was talking about the sanctity of life, would that not affect your thinking? A very beautiful woman talking about Israeli Palestinian relations will garner many different interpretations of what she is saying.

It is very easy to take one's words "out of context"....our media is proof of that. To avoid "conflict", a person needs to choose their words carefully. But then, sometimes it's kind of fun to "provoke" someone who has hardened opinions.

It's not about right or wrong, one's right or not one's right. Communication, especially where there are only words, can be very much misunderstood. Right now from reading your words, I get the feelings that you feel you've been misinterpreted in what you've recently written. But I can be wrong about that. That's why honest back and forth questions about interpretations is so important, especially when words are all your have.

In the past. on this and other forums I have been referred to as Unfeeling, Arrogant, Racist, Pompous,Privileged and a number of other things that hardly fit me. Does that bother me? No, not at all.
