How do you view young people now that you're older?

Don't mix with any socially, so don't have much to say. As someone not on post smartphone social media nor with cable tv for decades, am rather disconnected from all that culture that of course has a vast range of facets. Most young people I do meet in the urban world I live in are fine, so treat them like any other adult individuals without preconceived behavioral expectations.

I tied to comment on this but I am smart enough to know I am going to rankle someone's
feelings for sure because even though I see so much that saddens me and it's needless,
I have to hope and pray that whatever is coming, these future parents and grandparents
can adapt and be happy in it.
I did what I could & probably should have done more could probably be the
epitaphs on many of our headstones.

I sometimes peek to see what the guests are looking at. I didn't even realize it was an old thread. Sorry.
No need to be sorry. For whatever reasons i somehow 'miss' a thread when it is first up--so i'm fine with new members, guests or returning from cyber break people reviving them. if it doesn't interest me i can skip it.

Old people always complain about young people. Back when I was in junior college I had a humanities professor who said that the hieroglyphics on the walls inside the pyramids had writings about how they could do nothing with the kids these days. Then there was the old fart that gave the speech at our high school graduation that went on and on about how us young people were ruining everything. The world was a lot simpler when we were young. It's a lot more complicated now. So I'm inclined to cut them some slack. The

Some are okay, but most are spoiled and don't have ANY common sense. I don't use any trendy and strange terms they have. Like 'Selfcare'
'unhoused'
'unalive'
and tons of others. I use regular english I grew up with.

Every generation has it's fair share of idiots, followers, rebels, squares, and hell raisers. Did I just describe your long ago high school friends ? Probably . Young adults today are just the same, although they do have more access to knowledge than in the past, through their use of computers. What they DO with that knowledge is some times silly. Imagine me having to teach a 22 year old how to sweep a floor , or how to wash the windows ? They may know all about the solar system, but they can't manage to change a light bulb with out instruction. JImB.
Yes, and they make the simplest things so hard. I watched as three young adult males couldn't even jump start a car battery. I walked away laughing.

I view them as the future. Yes, many are spoiled, entitled but that may be due to their upbringing. I also see many young people who are polite, caring, willing to help. It’s a matter of perspective – many see only the shortcomings of youth but I see them as bright, quick learners, and exceptionally good with technology. Look at the adults, or seniors – do you not see the same flaws in them as well – rude, demanding, entitled because they are a senior etc.

For all those who disparage the youth of today. "Children are now tyrants not servants of their household. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.ā€ This sentiment was expressed by Socrates over 2,400 years ago.

Socrates would have loved my mother's children. We did not do any of those things. We stood up when an adult entered the room. We stood behind our chairs at the dining table until the adults were seated. We appeared to be pretty darned perfect, except for me. No one else had a sense of humor. I answered the phone very cheerfully. "X's funeral home. You stab 'em, we slab 'em." Or I'd answer grumpily. "Stop calling here. Our refrigerator is running. It took all the ice-cream with it, so we are in Very Bad Mood."

I know lots of young people, having had lots of kids. Generally, I like them a lot. Even the ones who were criminal defendants were pretty nice. I mean, if they hadn't been, I'd have drop kicked 'em into next week. If they grinned at the thought, I lied and said I know Krav Maga - black belt, 9th Dan. I'm good with lying because I'm good at bluffing. I see it as I'm a liar, not a fighter.

My sister, mother, and I were in a hotel room. I was pretending to be asleep. They started talking about me! Hmmmm. This was serious. Finally I would find out which of my many attributes they liked best!

Levity! Not brains, not muscles, not charisma, not my lack of criminal behavior, not the fact that I can still do the splits, not that pets always follow me around even though I don't have a pork chop tied around my neck, not the fact that I can scare people when I'm mad just by glaring at them.

I'm beginning to think my son has a twin here, I knew mine had brains and I knew he just refused to show them on demand. He holds 2 Bachelors and one Masters he earned AFTER he was 30. He had issues he was fighting as a child with his dad and I (divorced) but I am journaling
that in my diary now. He is a treasure in my life and he just 4 years ago believed it.
