How does something like this happen?

You don't want to "off your mother for a long time", and not have mental health issues. And you don't stab her 70 times, and not have mental health issues. Then you don't calmly call police and report the crime as if you were ordering a pizza. These are the hallmarks of psychopaths. His mother probably did "annoy" him. But I wonder if the mother was going to change funding, or altering his education/lifestyle in some way? I'm not buyng the ideal childhood, and great son bit.

It's funny how if a 20 year old got cancer, or lung disease or brain disease, nobody ever says he must have had an evil mother -- but let him get a brain disease, and the mother is not only suspected of being the cause, but deserving of being stabbed 70 times.

Does alcohol fall under the title of "mind-altering drugs", or does Uncle Billie getting bombed out of his gourd every Sunday afternoon at the family gathering, and weaving his way home in his truck, fall under a different category?

Old people seem to excuse or "not notice" problems caused by alcohol use (of which most are guilty) but fall all over themselves describing how someone puffing on a joint is a "hardened criminal".

Add on the beer and wine and hard stuff and then maybe the description of "mind altering drugs" will make some sense.
alcohol counts too ... that is far more destructive then most people believe.......
it is the false idea of one size fits all .... some can drink or smoke and be fine .........some people i feel are susceptible to life long damage....
who knows what is laced or added to street drugs as the legal dispensaries need ID etc.

I was watching a show called Signs of a Psychopath on Investigation Discovery and found out that unfortunately there are many out there like this guy who have no empathy or human connection, and no remorse for killing someone. There was a case about a son that killed his mother with an axe because she wanted him to make something of himself.

I had to stop watching it. It was too disturbing.

How horrible. I don't even want to imagine what she was feeling as she was being murdered. Either he was terribly angry with her or he snapped and had a psychotic episode, or both. There have been way too many instances of parents killing their children and children killing their parents! I read about these things o an almost daily basis, I just choose not to post about them. It's mind boggling.

This guy snapped. The cause of it will have to be figured out by the police & the psychologists. Maybe or maybe not there were warning signs. In the video, the Sheriff said he was described as being remarkably brilliant & a genius. Could that in itself could have been some type of a sign? Some people with a high intelligence can have zero tolerance with those who they consider not their equal & have a hard time being with people. It makes you wonder if that intelligence may be a form of "illness" itself or contribute to an underlying mental problem (I hope that makes sense).

AND I'm not saying all highly intelligent people are this way at all, but a few just may be. They are ones who could have a problem coping with what some people would think is a gift.

Whatever his reason was, that reason will only make sense to himself. Someone who snaps like he did could have picked anything as a trigger that you or I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

I don't believe we can truly understand crazy like this & the reason for that is we don't think like them. When someone says we need to find out why someone committed a crime like this & to understand it, that's not going to happen IMO. They only understand the why. It's not the normal thought & reasoning process the rest of us has.

Individuals like this need to be in a permanent place to receive treatment & not be a danger to the public. Sadly, there are more people out on the streets that need help than I like to think about. We need modern mental health facilities again.

My condolences to the siblings & other family members for what they are going through at this time.

The murderer probably went through the perfect storm of mental and physical health health events along with unresolved parent/teenage rebel issues. That being said there was a decision to proceed with and carry on the attack 70 times.

One of many issues in society today is that many can't negative or unexpected outcomes for just about anything at this point. This includes teenage or young gangsters will kill you for looking at them funny because they expected "respect"/fear. Expectations are set too high in all aspects of life not just career, money, status etc and that includes relationships wether a mate or parent.

My brain will not accept this: Frostproof FL school teacher stabbed 70+ times by 20 year old son whose only reason for attack was “she annoyed me.” He is 4th year pre-med UF student with NO history of behavior issues. No drugs or alcohol involved. Model student, model son. Youngest of 4 children. Graduated high school top of class. WTF?

Good utube presentation by Polk Co. FL Sheriff Grady Judd but I couldn’t manage to copy. Google is your friend here.

I think we need to accept that no "reason" was detected, but it certainly existed. They guy was psychotic, period. Just no-one noticed.
